More About Gilbert and Perlina

Gilbert was known as a very generous and kind man. He was a farmer and was known as a good carpenter. He had an apple orchard where he raised yellow apples, June apples, Red Sweet, Maiden Blush, Winesap, and Rome apples. Gilbert and Perlina started housekeeping Letcher Co., next to his father, William Tolson Adams. Their first child was born there. By 1860, they lived Magoffin Co., Ky. They built a large two room cabin on the Burning Fork of the Rockhouse Creek. They are said to have corraled their sheep, cows, and other stock one room at night to protect them from wolves. Gilbert and Perlina grew flax to make linen for their summer clothes and spun and loomed wool for their things. Gilbert recieved land grants and accumulated over 1200 acres.
