A Wonderful Story I was feeling a little low as I watch the current events of the day, when I typed in the good ole days and your web site appeared. I read your cover story and escaped from reality. What a wonderful story! Although I was not born in the hills of Kentucky, I can relate to so many memories you write. I'm a 49 years old male, raised in W.P.B. Florida, and I too remember when we were truly free. Never the less, thanks for making my day a little brighter. I don't know who you are, your age or your gender, but you sure did hit the nail on the head when you write about saying the pledge, building bon fires, running through the neighborhood with a feeling of secure recklessness. Charles Williams Bentley Charles died Sept. 8, 1995 in Highland County, Ohio. He married Dollie M. Tackett b.Dec. 24,1929 d.Dec. 5,1973 Highland County, Ohio.Daughter of Walter Dock Tackett b. July 10,1897 Pike County, Ky d.April 7,1974 and Louise Bartley b.1907 Pike County, Ky. They had three sons. Which two of them are still living my dad and one uncle. Their son Gary died between 1997 and 1999 do not remember exact year. Between Charles and Dollie if they were still living they would have 12 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. After Dollie died Charles had found a girlfriend named Maggie who is still living and they had one daughter. Then Charles found girlfriend Kathy who is also still living and they had three son. Grandpa was with Kathy for several years and that is who he was with whein he died. Thought you could use this information and that way you would have it to put on your website.

Re: Just to say hello Hi Hazel, I seen your message and wanted to say Hi, Wesley is home from the hospital, they think a stomach virus but did a lot of testing he is going back to the Dr. this morning to find the results, but I think he is fine. He spent the night with me and was up running around playing and eating everything in the house so he is truly on the mend haha. I am looking forward to this coming Sunday, the Holbrook Reunion at Slade Ky. I am planning on attending if at all possible, but a little nervous with not knowing anyone that will attend, I sure wish you were going to be there, But I know everything will turn out fine and I will enjoy meeting all the cousins. Re: Just to say hello Hi Hazel and Anne, I'm glad you posted in here. It looks pretty lonesome since I archived the posts. You can still read the old posts anytime you want to by clicking on the link at the top of each page that reads "Comment Archives". I couldn't get rid of them, I just wanted to start a new page. In the long ago past, I've lost some of our great messages before and I don't want that to happen ever again, so I've started archiving everything so we will always have them because they mean a lot to all of us here. I've archived the guestbook and the feedback also, but I'm kind of hesitant to start a fresh feedback and guestbook page. If I do, they will look as lonesome as this one and I don't know what to think about that yet. What do all of you think about it? Should I start fresh pages in the guestbook and the feedback pages? Just like here, you can still read all the posts, but you will just not see them in the forums, they will be available from a link instead. If you've got an opinion about it, please let me know. Anne, I found some info on the Sizemores and added them to your pages. I added your grandparents, William Wilson Manies and Ethel Sizemore. I couldn't find William Wilson's parents, but I did find Ethel's parents and ancestors back to Edward "Ned" Sizemore and his parents. Let me know if I need to make corrections, ok? Re: Just to say hello Hi Annette, I just checked in again and seen where you have found my grandparents and great grandparents on Mom's side, this is great news, I have looked everywhere and couldn't find anything on them except in the 1930 census of Letcher County, its like my grandfather never existed until the 30 census never to be found again, but thanks so much for finding my grandmother's family. I found a little piece of paper my Mother had in our family bible that had my grandpa's name and birth date on it, and also in her diaries I found the names of Ned Sizemore and Mandy Smith and thats all the information I had. I get really excited when family is found. Words can not express the gratitude I feel for you and all the hard work you do for others. Thank you so much for all the help you have given to me. Comment Archives Hi Everyone, I've finished copying all the comments to the archives and will now begin to delete the old ones, but they will not be gone. I've saved every comment in here to the archives. I will have a link to the old comments in here and also on the links page, so everyone can still view all the comments. We'll just start a brand new clean page, so it will seem like no one is using this forum, but they are. I have also archived the guestbook posts so that we won't lose them either. I personally don't know about their Cherokee connection, but I really do think that there is one for many of our families in Eastern Kentucky. It seems to me like I've seen something about the Breeding and Nickles names that relate to a connection to the Cherokee, but I will have to do more searching to find out. In the meantime, if you have anything that you want to add, or if you have anything yourself about the connection, I will add it to the site. I'm hoping someone with more knowledge about it will find your post and help with it. Or if you have more info, please let me know about it and I'll be sure to add it to their pages. great grandparents hi to everyone i need pics of nehemiah adams and nancy cook family also some for anderson cook and drucilla huffman pics my father is roger morton his mother was maggie nora adams and father thomas g morton maggie parents were nehemiah adams and nancy cook if anyone has any info or pic i would love to hear from you. my father has never meet the adams family or knows anything about them. his mother did when he was born but i have his birth record and her death certicate. we are trying to get the family tree done for my father for he can see what his relatives look like and know a little about them.

Re: great grandparents annete i was looking through the potter website for my fathers family also found my mothers family in here mother side are backs theres a lewis back on here says he native in a newspaper in 1938 does anyone knowabout this. if so please contact me this is my immediate family. goes my mother geralene chapman, virgie back,john lee back, moses back, john back. lewis back and moses back were brothers.if this is the case then my mother might have alot more indian in her than we thought. we know theres some but havent found until last night. supposed to be john lee backsr wife elizabeth russell is supposed to be indian. thats whatwe heard this is wonderful that i found this on here. thanks renee |

Re: great grandparents Hi Renee, I have looked and looked and for the life of me, I can't figure out your mom's family. Can you give me more info so that I can find them? I think that there is a possiblity that when the papers refer to a native, they are indicating a life long resident of that state. Other than that, I can't think of any other reason they would use the word "native" to describe someone. Hope to hear from you. Annette

Bentley and Lizzie Lucas Bentley Obituary , this is in the Mountain Eagle this week. Buford is my 1st cousin (His mother and my mother are sisters). Services held are for Buford Bentley Former Jenkins Police Officer Buford Wayne Bentley, 60, died June 29 at his home at Jenkins. A son of the late Duran and Lizzie Mae Lucas Bentley, he was born in Jenkins. He was preceded in death by five brothers, three sisters, and a grandson. June Hall |

312 Obits I just added a lot more obits to the obituaries pages. The list contains about 312 obits now. Plus there are links to other obituary sites. You can find the list at the following link: Obituaries. I am behind in adding to the What's New Page. I've added 100's of new pages to the website that are not on the What's New page. You can do a search to find your ancestor from any page. You get better results if you hit the Search Button multiple times. The search results often don't turn up on the first few tries, but if you continue to hit the search button you will find what you're looking for if it is on the site. If yours is not on the site, and you would like it there, just send it to me and I will add it. The site is getting so huge it's just unreal. There are 1000's of families on it now. People continue to send in their lineage and it just keeps growing. Thanks to all the submitters. I've tried to add them to the Contributors Page, but if I have left anyone out, please Contact Me and I will add you to that list of contributors.

Family Connection I'm inquiring about Hannah Houston abt.1830, she had a son named Nathaniel Houston b/1848 (My GG Grandfather). Was she married to Abraham Potter, my info is that Nathaniel is his son. Nathaniel took his mothers name for some reason. June

Do you have any information about Hannah that I can add to the website? I will be very happy to make notations on Hannah's page about what info you have. I could add something like: Some believe that Nathaniel Houston was the son of Abraham Potter and Hannah Houston, or something like that. Would that be something you would like for me to add? Re: Family Connection Thanks Annette for replying. Hannah Houston had Nathaniel (dob 1848) 2 years before she married Charles Yonts. Nathaniel's daughter Mary Houston(dob 1868)is my Great Grandmother. Mary's daughter is Maggie Jane Houston-Bentley Hall dob Dec. 27,1894. Maggie Married James M. Hall , they had five children: James Hall Jr. Dewey Hall..My father Leonard Hall George Hall Marie Hall I haven't been able to find any information on Hannah prior to her marriage to Charles Yonts. Pop Warner Lil Creed, Drew Miller and Cody Huck won state champions in San Antonio last week. They are in the national playoffs held at Disneyworld. They play today and if they win they will continue through the week. The last few games will be televised on ESPN. Go Giants! |

Re: Pop Warner the boys lost Sunday's game by 3 points. They beat Hawaii today 40 to 10. There are only 8 teams that get to participate in this. There is a web site for Pop Warner which gives all the details. The boys will be home Thursday night late. They will not stay for the championship game. Oh, Alethea's husband Chuck went when he was 14. They came in 3rd. Funny! Channel 11 had it on the news and I think the Pasadena Citizen is doing a story on our boys. Judy has a picture of all three together. As a side note, Amber had her baby Monday, 3 Dec. Do not remember if boy or girl. Another side note, is about Judy's nepew, Chase. He is the grandson of Jimmy. He was attending San Marcos College and was at a party. He and a friend left the party and were attacked. Chase is here at Ben Taub and on critical list. They beat him and kicked him. No one knows why they jumped Chase and his friend. Well will try to call you. Love ya, Kaie

Veterans I just thought it might be nice to complie a list of all the Potter descendents that are Veterans. In Creed and Ida's there is: Clark, J Mart, David, Stephen Burkland and Chad. The first were all Air Force. Stephen was a Marine in Iraqi. Chad was Navy. Chad's 1st wife died in a jet crash while on manuvers. She was also Navy. I bet we could get quite a few. What do you think? |

My sister Opal's great grandson(My great great nephew) is in the service, but I'm not sure what branch. My brother Perry's grandson (My great nephew)Craig is in the Navy I think..My sister Zella's husband Bob was in the Air Force and 2 of her sons,(My nephews)Steve and Rick were in the Army I think.. My sister Rheba's husband Bobby Joe was in the Army.. I'm sure I could come up with a lot more if I thought about it for awhile...

Ivory Didn't Make it My little baby cat, Ivory didn't make it through the night. He was my little precious baby and I don't know what I'm going to do without him. I had him for 15 years and he went everywhere with me and went through everything with me and faithfully loved me through it all. I am just heartsick about losing him. Re: generation and family group sheets Hi Kaie, I don't have any family group sheets and I also don't have the 6 Volumes of the Letcher Conty Pictorials that Marty gave me or the other genealogy books that he gave me. Someone took them out of my things. I don't know what they would want with my genealogy photos and other items, but they weren't where I had packed them and my boxes had been gone through and most of my good and important things removed. Maybe if you go out there you can ask them what they did with our genealogy things. The group sheets and all that were packed in the same box, but when I received them, they weren't in there. I also had a disk with our website on it and it was gone out of the case. Maybe you could ask them if they have that also. It was very important because it contained all our pictures and our websites. It was a total backup of both websites and all our genealogy documents and everything. I hope they will give that back to you. We worked our you know whats off on all that stuff on that disk and in that box. Let me know if you get them. Luv you, Annette

Re: Guestbook Ok, I think the Original Guestbook is fixed. Try it to see if it works. I don't know what the deal is on that thing. It's another freeby and rootsweb has made some changes lately, so I guess that effects the guestbooks too. We'll see. Re: YOUR MOM Hi Hazel, Mom is doing better..I haven't heard anything new about her from anyone today. She is getting some fluid removed from her lungs today and other than that, I will let you know as I hear something new. Kaie is in touch with Clark more than I am, so she will probably be the one to post anything new about Mom, but if I do hear before she does, I will be sure to post it as soon as I get it. Clark said yesterday that Mom was doing much better and seemed ok, other than having the fluid on her lungs which is always something I take very seriously. Re: YOUR MOM ida was moved to rehab today. she will be in the methodist hospital rehab for a couple of weeks. yesterday they withdrew 1 1/2 liters from her lungs. she is doing really good. she asked us to bring her a small piece of chocolate. |

Re: YOUR MOM ida is back at paramount room 312. she was in great spirits and looking really well. when we went to see her she was in the lounge drinking coffee. we visited and reminded that she would be 95 this month. she said wow. that is old. later, her room mate kept asking where was she going for christmas. ida finally, told her not to worry and enjoy the surprise. |

Re: YOUR MOM carlene spent the day with your mom. she was struggling with the oxygen. clark, jacinda and i went over tonight. she wanted a hug and clark gave her a big long hug. she said she would quit fighting the oxygen and she settled down and hopefully went to sleep. my friend, helen who is also there is a little better. her mind seems to be returning just a little, since her fall. another friend, carol, who is there is going home in the morning. |

the trek the kids (creed, shannon, cody) are back from the trek. they had the best time. they said it was so hot and humid. they pushed loaded handcarts 11 miles a day. they were dressed in pioneer clothing and had not modern gadgets (what no cell phone). there were 90 teenagers all told. none of them could be in a group with a relative or a best friend. they had to push, pull the hand carts. they were given babys (dolls) to care for. you were not allowed to put the baby down. the 2nd day out shannon's died. they had to dig a grave and bury it. the handcart train would stop and everyone attended the funeral. they pushed through mud one whole day. they said the worst was loose sand. they had cornmush for breakfast and beef jerky (homemade) with an orange for lunch. the kids said the food was terrible but it would substain you and they partook. when the bus pulled up with all the kids they were singing and having the best time. they made friends they will never forget. they said everyone carried their load and worked hard. shannon is thrilled she does not have to wear all those clothes. she said the mud made them a 10 tons. she said she believes she could survive. one girl dehydrated and went to the hospital where they refreshed her. she would not go home she went back to the trek. well, i have blabbed enough. just wish i could have gone. they were allowed insect repellent. thanks for listening...love ya, kaie |

I will be calling again because i tried emailing and nothing went throught. clark and i just got back from working our shift at the peanut butter plant. clark is over our ward. we made 700 cases of peanut butter for the food bank. thank you for the kind words about briana. you know she loves to do genealogy. i wanted to tell you that in the very near future we need to go rob judy potter miller's pictures. we could take my lap top and scan them. i know she has some of you before you moved back to ky. i think it would be fun and she has some cool stuff. jacinda is coming home in june and we are taking the teenagers and heading to new braunfels. time to do some tubing. did you know judy went to the hospital the other day? she thought she was having a heart attack. she waited 6 hours with no help so she went home. she described her sym. and creed (who is an emt) thought she should go to another hospital. i have not heard from her so i suppose she is still kicking. ..... well, mighty deep subject, i suppose i had best be heading on to bed. time to start over in a few hours. oh, jeneesa sang in nashville last week end and is performing tonight in birmingham tonight. Shannon is fighting tomorrow. you know she is national kickboxing champion in her division. shannon, jinaquin and allauna gratuate this may. jinaquin and allauna on the same night, same time but different locations. clark and i will divide up to go to those. the end of may, jacinda and tommy will be married 18 years......she is going to pass me up with those anniversieres. clark and i will be married 43 yrs this july. we should have a huge party....!!! good night, sweet dreams and don't let the bed bugs bite. love ya, kaie |

Joel M Potter Hey Woman! Just had to tell you that I was watching "cold case files" the other day. The retired detective from New York was explaining his case. Guess his name! That is correct, Joel M Potter! I wonder what the M stands for. Just thought you would like to know. clark, billie, charlie and i went to sister swain's funeral tonight. i don't know if you remember her or not. he was the pastor of the church that marty and judy went to in so ho. that was when trent was born. Tracey (creed's) called to say her cousin died today. she was 41 and had to little children. one is 12 and the other is 7. she had been fighting breast cancer for a couple of yrs when last night she went into a coma with brain cancer. Also, do you remember Donna Wotsowski (she painted the inside of my home)well, she died last week. she broke her hip and died with pneumonia. she was 51.also, do you remeber my friend dorothylee butler? she used to come to thanksgiving and christmas. she is going to a nursing home in nebraska next week. has not been a good week for me. oh, today i had to go to court for a ticket, speeding in a school zone. i didn't have a clue what time it was or that i was in a school zone. well, in pasadena you better know. $250 dollars. thank you very much. i think that kind of fine should be ILLEGALLLLLLLL!i was only doing 30. now, i don't get a new garage door, which i really need...boo hoo hoo! whaaa whaa whaa... if i can cheer you up again. i will write.. hope you are well. love ya, kaie |

I remember everyone speaking of Sister Swain and her husband. I heard Marty talk about them when he was alive. Tracey's cousin is sure young, isn't she. So sorry to hear about that. I'm sorry to hear about Donna Wotsowski. She was really young also. These people are so young, it's unreal how so many people are dying and becoming ill at so young an age! You know, there is a school zone like that on Pasadena Blvd that you absolutely cannot see until it is too late! There ought to be something done about that because that is just an illegal trap as far as I'm concerned. I would never speed in a school zone and I know you wouldn't either. If it's the same one, we ought to protest it because they give you no warning whatsoever. I agree with you that even the others should also be illegal! Thirty is not too fast in one of those zones! I can just see her doing that. She was over here a couple of days ago and she looks wonderful. I got the one about Starbucks being mean to our soldiers and that makes me angry at them. I don't like anyone who does anything bad to our soldiers. I'd like to know who owns the largest share of them. I hope they get boycotted and go out of business. Their coffee isn't that great, and it's way too expensive. They came in second to McDonalds coffee!

Snopes disects all these quotes, but what gets me is the fact that most of these people who make these statements are in high offices in our country. The most infuriating thing is that they stand for the idea that this is really Mexico. I wonder if these people have forgotten the war we fought with Mexico. I wonder also if they are wanting to go to war with us again, because we may sit by and watch many injustices, but eventually we will fight anyone who tries to come in and take any part of country to claim it for another nation. Re: email The power of those guns is beyond belief. I had no idea these weapons existed. Their targets nearly evaporated except for that last one that wasn't a direct hit. That one seemed to live for a moment. It was absolutely mesmerizing.

coal miners memorial Annette,, I was talking to Helena a couple of days ago and i ask her about a miners memorial at Mcroberts and Mike said they had a wall with names on it, no bricks, they are suppose to stop and look at it up close.. maybe Mike will take a picture of it,who knows. I got some info on Sherry Holbrook also. i had to make 3 phone call tho. she is not R.T. Holbrooks daughter..her dad was a Holbrook but not R.T... that's what i'm being told...later...just me...luv.. |

coal miners memorial annette,, is the memorial your sister-in-law is talking about the one at the old hemphill grade school..the one that mike shortt is head of ??? the standing memorial is for the men that got killed in the coal mines. the bricks are nice.. daddy,vick and perry and just everybody down there has a brick with their name on it..you seen the picture, they are really nice..i hadn't heard of one at mcroberts,,but what do i know.. later,,just me.. |

jinaquin hey, been doing genealogy every thrusday. it takes a while to get back in the hang of it. i am trying to put it all into paf file...ugh.. went to jinaquin's spring recital tonight. the entire potter clan was there. jinaquin grauates this year. the ballet was excellent. very talented students. clark went to see your mother. he was headed to her room when someone behing him shouted hey! HEY! HeY CLARK! he turned and it was your mother. he had walked right by her and she let him know it. he says she is finally getting stronger. sounds good. love ya,kaie |
