I am not sure if this lady is connected to the Gabbard's of Owsley County or
not but from the family names I thought she might be. Her death was such a
sad affair. She was killed by her own dog. He had not been aggressive
previously and she had raised him from a pup. I think the paper said he was
9 years old and was a chow mix.

6774. Helen Gabbard

The Mother of Dallas Fox.

Mom has a twin brother Howard Gabbard.

My mother called me twice on my 60th birthday, 1/29/1998. She lives in Indiana and I live in Tennessee. On this day she was wallpapering her master bathroom! She is 75 years old and doing things I can't do at 60. We got to talking about my birth date and who was with her in the mountains of Foxtown, Kentucky. She told me her sister Alma was there, her mother Catherine Frances Maupin Gabbard, her mother in law, Tincie Elizabeth Cain Fox and the mid-wife Aunt Rachel McKinney, I was born about 2-3 pm she remembers the time because the WPA road workers were still working and my middle name is derived from the man who had a automobile and the road foreman because he drove his car to return the mid-wife to deliver me into this world. His name was Charlie Baker.

Wade Fox

I have a copy of Dad's Honorable Discharge. He was discharged 12/31/1945. He received four medals 1. Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with (2) Bronze stars; 2. Philippine Liberation Ribbon with (1) Bronze star;3. Good conduct medal; 4. Victory Medal World War II. He attained the rank of Tech, 5.....

Dad began working in 1941 for American Kitchens in Connersville, Indiana and then was drafted into WWII after which he returned to this company for a total of 17 years. This company then became D & M and Dad worked for them a total of 24 years. That's a total of 41 years, he died 3 years after his retirement.

Wade was famous in the Whitewater Valley for his God given abilities for training dogs for hunting, especially coon hunting. He loved to hunt and thought every one of his sons should love it too. He had a room full of trophy s that his dogs won for him at the coon hunting trials that were held in the Valley. Dad gained his abilities during his early years because it was necessary to provide food for the family. Hunting was what he loved, but he had to labor also at farming and for awhile he worked in the Appalachian coal mines in Jackson County, Kentucky. He was drafted into the Army for WWII. Before this Dad's education was only a fifth grade level. The Army allowed him to see another part of the world and that things were better outside the "Daniel Boone National Forest". After his Honorable discharge from the Army, he moved his family North for a better life!!
