Obituary: Dock Cornett, 87, of Hallie, Kentucky, died May 17, 2008 at the Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center in Hazard, Perry Co KY.

A son of the late Lilly and Polly Jane Cornett, he was the widower of Eula Mae Halcomb Cornett. He was the father of the late Gerald Neal Cornett, and the grandfather of the late Jonathon Allen Cornett.

Cornett was a graduate of Georgetown College, with a master's degree from the University of Kentucky and advanced work at the University of Tennessee. He was a mathematics teacher for many years at Leatherwood High School, Kingdom Come School, and Letcher High School.

Cornett was active in the preservation of Lilly Cornett Woods, a natural forest named for his father. He was a veteran of World War II.  Funeral services were held May 20. 2008 at Letcher Funeral Home. Burial was in the Ison and Cornett Cemetery at Hallie, KY.

Surviving are a brother, Kelly Cornett, Hueysville; a niece, Lillian Lane, Lexington; four sons, Paul, Jimmie, Ray, and Van, all of Hallie; three daughters, Janice Meade, Paintsville; Rebecca Massey, Richmond, Va., and Nellie Ison, Cincinnati, Ohio; 21 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
