James Taylor Adams writes in his [IT:Family Burying Grounds in Wise County, Virginia,:IT] pages 40-41: "Daniel Hugh Boggs was a son of Jacob (Jake) and Nancy (Nan) Boggs. Nan Boggs was a daughter of Joseph Stallard. Dan married Virginia (Jennie), daughter of Noah and Martha Killen) Sowards, and lived just east of the Foot of the Mountain on the South of the Mountain Road. He was born September 7, 1882, and was shot and killed by Daniel Wampler on May 17, 1931, at the Mud Hole on US 23. I have been told that the two men fell out over the settlement of an account. Daniel Wampler is a son of John (Hoggy John) Wampler and is a second cousin of mine, but I am not personally acquainted with him. "Carlton Boggs was a son of Daniel and Jennie Boggs. He shot and killed Jonathan Mullins, his first cousin, and the only son of Robert Lee (One-Eyed Dock) and and Geneva (Boggs) Mullins. [Geneva Boggs Mullins and Daniel Hugh Boggs were children of Jacob Blubaugh and Nancy Elizabeth Stallard Boggs]. Carlton was tried for the killing in Wise County Circuit Court and acquitted. Time passed. Three or four years had gone by. Then one day Carleton stopped at the home of a neighbor and found One-Eyed Dock Mullins there. Not a word was exchanged between the two men, but they both walked from the front room to the kitchen where they grappled and scuffled out through the kitchen yard with One-Eyed Dock Mullins standing over him with a smoking pistol in his hand. One-Eyed Dock was indicted for murder, tried and acquitted. Then one evening about a year ago, he was sitting with his wife on the front porch of their home about a quarter of a mile northwest of Donkey, when suddenly he pulled a pistol from his pocket, put it against his temple and shot out his own brains."
