10131. Marion Marshall Guffey

Marshall Marion Guffey was born in Clinton County on August 17, 1923 and passed away August 31, 2012 being 89 years of age. He and Ruth Davison Guffey were married September 14, 1946 and would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary had he lived. They were blessed with two sons Danny and wife, Mary McGinnis Guffey and Terry Guffey. Also surviving are two grandchildren Allison Guffey and husband, Matt Rice and Drew Guffey; two great grandchildren Cayleb and Aidan Rice. Preceding him in death was his parents John and Docia Ayers Guffey; brothers Bill and Wesley Guffey; and sisters Mary Jones, Bess Davenport and Reba Watson; and a number of nieces and nephews. He served his country with honor during World War II and Korea. He also served in the National Guard for a number of years. He was a self-employed business man and a member of the First Baptist Church where he served on the Properties Committee and as a Deacon. He loved to fish and spent a lot of time on the lake after his retirement.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Chris Gray and Bro. Dennis Wheeler officiating. Burial was held Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Elk Spring Cemetery. Military Honors were given by Wayne County DAV Chapter #105. Hickey and Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
