2596. Henry Aquilla Vanderford

He served in Company D, 17th Mississippi Infantry.


2617. Aquilla Q. Greer

He was President of the State Bank of Potts Camp, Vice President of the Merchants and Farmers Bank of Holly Springs, and officially connected with the Bank of Commerce in New Albany, Mississippi. His land holdings were extensive not only in Mississippi, but also in the delta of Arkansas. At the time of his death he was one of the wealthiest men in the State of Mississippi.


5789. Dan Lester Greer

He operated the Greer and Greer Store in Potts Camp with his brothers, Robert and Curtis. He was the sole owner until his retirement after 20 years. The store closed after 82 years of continous operation. Farmers bought farm supplies, food and clothing from the store and paid for it after their crops were harvested in the fall. The Greers also owned a "famous" health resort called Eagle Springs which was one mile south of town. Located at the springs were a health spa and a hotel owned by the Greer family. There was a boardwalk that lead from the down town area to Eagle Springs.


Montgomery Boatner

She was educated at Woman's State College in Meridian, MS. She was a Methodist. She served as a member of the Conference committee on United Nations and Peace, and received national recognition for her articles in the national magazine.She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and also the United Daughters of the Confederacy, of which she was president for several years. Her activities also included being instrumental in getting a marble bust of Stonewall Jackson placed in the Hall of Fame in Washington, DC, as well as a marble bust of Jefferson Davis in the Hall of Fame in the Old Capital Building in Richmond, VA, where she officiated the unveiling. In Potts Camp, Mrs. Greer organized the first Parent Teacher Association and held state offices; organized the Potts Camp Garden Club; helped organize the Marshall Co., MS, Woman's Club of which she was a charter member. Writing poetry was one of her favorite pastimes, as well as introducing others to the enjoyment of poetry.
