I came upon your Genealogy Service while conducting a name searchofMalinda (Horsley) Eden, mother of Ora Eden. Also, from yourresearch Inoticed that you have listed Ora's wife, Sadie Madden, asher firsthusband. Although, I have no direct information concerningSadie Madden,I do have little about Ora. This information, if youshould have aninterest may lead you to find additional recordsconcerning ClaudeJessee's second wife.
Ora Eden was born May 22, 1888. His mother was Malinda Basheba(Horsley)Eden. (I am researching the Horsley family of Greenup,Carter and Lewiscounties) It should be noted that Malinda had abrother William F.Horsley (9/24/1864)who also married a Madden. Hername was Annie LucieMadden (b: 8/12/1871) of Carter Co., Ky. Annie'sfather was MathewMadden and mother Sophia Estill of Fleming Co., Ky.
Ora died on or about the Thursday prior to January 27, 1921. Hisdeathwas written in the Carter County Herald, January 27, 1921edition. Atthe time of his death he was 32 years, 7 mos., 23 days.
The circumstances of his death was that "he left his home, which isonthe Tygart, in Carter county, Wednesday night, carrying his lantern,gunand axe accompained by his dog for a coon hunt in the hills ofRowancounty just across the divide, as he journeyed down Holly Creekhe camein contact with a moonshine still ...His wife and two childrenbecamealarmed the next day and spread the news that he had notreturned homewhereupon the entire community went out in search for theman and foundhim ...still alive... He talked and told the crowd wherehe was when theyshot him, ... they turned him over, but when they didhe died almostinstantly... The still, which was found on the land ofKate Tolliver, anda woman arrested at Hitchins Saturday by the name ofCarry Brown,...confessed that she knows who did the shooting as thatof KateTolliver, and that a man by the name of Raybourn is in partnerswith himin the still and they feared he (Eden) was a spy and shothim."
