My name is Jessica, any guess on where that came from (LOL), my motherisBetty Kaye Jessee (even though it's Kay on her birth certificate),herfather was John Dickenson Jessee son of John Tivis Jessee who inturn isthe son of Ephraim Kiser Jessee. I am writing to add to thecollectionof Jessee's you currently know about. The story goes thatJohn Tivis, named after his Uncle (Ephraim's brother) wanted to marry agirl by thename of Kate Dickenson, her Father was much abliged toallow thismarriage given that John Tivis could provide for her. Mostof the familyhad stayed in Russell County Virginia and John Tiviswanted to make a wayon his own. It appears that John Tivis wassomewhat of a hot head. Itis speculated that that is another reasonfor moving away. The storiesthat my Grand Father told we not thennicest to hear, it has been saidthat he was very abusive to his twosons John Dickenson and Cowan Tivis,(he was also called Cecil) and attime to his wife Kate. It seems thatKate took several a beating inher childrens stead and she never oncebacked down to him. Anyway, hetraveled to Boyle County Kentucky andpurchased a parcel of farm land. After allowing for the land, a modesthome, necessary farm equipment, animals, he was almost totally broke. Hetraveled to his parents homeand before leaving told his Mother thateverything was in place inKentucky. The only problem was he had justenough money for the traintickets for he and
Kate's journey to Kentucky but not a cent to buy her a ring.JohnTivis's Mother responded by taking the ring off her hand andgiving itto her son with many wishes of a happy life. My Mother gaveme this ringon the announcement of my wedding with the same wishesthat had beenhanded down ever since. Thank you for being a proudmember of the Jesseeheritage I know we have always been.Source: Jessica Ford [mailto:Jess0594@aol.com]

Can the Windom in this obit possibly be the same Wyndham (Windom)listedin your database? Calculating the birth date of Leota at abt.1915together with Wyndham's age of approx. 37 makes Leota apossibledaughter.Source: Mike Malone [mailto:drjoym@bellsouth.net]

Source: Brigitte Chabo (Cutterpie@aol.com) sent thefollowinginformation regarding Clarence C.Clay and his family.
"My grandfather was Joe Clay, the brother of Clarence Clay. JoeandClarence's father, George Clay, married Susan Hickman. George'smotherwas named Emily and George's grandmother was Lucy. George wasone offive boys born to Emily. However, we have been unable to locateanyfather for the boys."..."My family tree shows Clarence marriedMammieJessee. Robert - died at 5 in a fire; I think Vera) I can'tremember therest and I have given my father the breakdown I have. Iwill get it backfrom him and give you the childrens names; theirspouses and I think iteve has thier children on it. My Clarence andMammie were born and raisedin Castlewood, Russell County, Virginia;however, they may have movedsometime after they were married. Joe,Clarence's brother, stayed inCastlewood and married mygreat-grandmother. My father eventually wasborn there, but he leftwhen he joined the service. He ended up settlingin No. Virginia wherewe still live today. I was born in No. Virginia, not back inCastlewood. My uncle, James Foster, was one of the towndoctors formany years way back when. But the story of Joe and Clarencesfather isturning out to be very interesting. George had four brothers.Allbrothers family had found each other, but not George's. I/we arethemissing link about George. I have tried to find other siblingsofClarence and Joe, but have had no luck. I figure someone has toknowsomething about George's parents. I contacted George's othersiblingsand they are very knoweldgeable about George, Emily (hismother) and Lucy(grandmother). However, on no death or marriagecertificates can we findout who the father is of any of these 5 boys.During one of the census itstates that Emily is a widow. But it neverlister her as being married -ever. There are no records in the countyhall that show she wasmarried. We believe that Ms. Emily wasflamboyant. It's possible thatall boys were bastards. My grandmother(George would be her grandfather)and her sisters are VERY upset withme and finding George, his silbings,Emily and Lucy. But they won'ttell me why or what in the world is goingon. I keep trying to push tofind out. They are in the 80's and there isnot much time left if weare ever going to find out about George, Emilyand Lucy. Also, Georgewas in the civil war.Source: Charles Clay [CClay23668@aol.com] posted, 11/29/2000,thefollowing information.

George had four brothers: Thomas Harmon, Henry Jackson, CharlesQuincy(my grfather), and Elbert Squire. We know that their motherwasEmily/Emma Clay, but no spouse. As
for Lucy being the grmother, that is speculation. Emily may wellhavebeen a latter day single parent. I know Ms. Chabo
and what she told you is fairly accurate. Geotge was in Co. G,7thBattalion Confederate Cavalry and file for pension in Russell Co.He died04 March 1904 in Russell Co. Our brick wall seems to be withEmily. Rightnow this is a famiy puzzle.Source: Charles A Clay
