Joseph Browning Kendrick m. 27 Apr 1859 Russell Co VA to Charity Hart b 6 Jun 1839 Russell Co VA d 25 Oct 1923 Harts Creek, Russell Co VA; d/o Isaac Hart and Celia Combs. Joseph Browning Kendrick was a farmer, school teacher and Southern Baptist Minister. He was pastor of Independence Church for 40 yrs. He joined the CSA during the Civil War & although he didn't believe in slavery he said he couldn't fight against Va. He was a Chaplain & took part in several battles including Balls Bluff, Winchester, Hanover Court House, Malvern Hill, Harpers Ferry, & Antietam. He was wounded at Antietam in Sept. 1862. Lewis Kendrick, one of Josephs brothers, fought for the North. They were in the same battles a few times. As of 1986 an Agnes Musick still had the bullet which wounded Joseph.
