36. David Loveall

Names of 7 children from Valorie Taylor Spence, 1997.

206. Martha Ann Loveall

Named in Stephen Loveall's will. She was not in my list of the family
earlier. Her father from J.W. Lovell's e-mail note with the will.

37. Nancy Loveall

She was not in Sandy Sanford's list but she is speculated as being in
this family because of information supplied by Billye Snow. Nancy &
Lee's children are named almost identically to Samuel & Rebecca
Milliken Lane's, and a daughter was named Veina, the same name as
Stephen Loveall's mother. Samuel Lane signed the marriage security for
William Walker. William Walker's son, Lee, wasadopted by Samuel Lane,
Jr in 1864. These factors lead to the speculation that Nancy could
have been raised by Samuel Lane, rather than having a young infant go
to KY with the rest of the family. By not going with the family, she
may have been missed when searching for children in KY.
Her parents were proven by Stephen Loveall's will.
Greene Co Marriage Records.
Her birth place inVA from 1850 census.
Greene Co census: 1850 (9th Div, #1911, p. 267B).
A page of family history information from Robert Erwin showed the
death of Nancy Walker 1/9/1871, aged 62 yrs.

from Cornelius Hughes. (from Billye Snow)
Familyinfo from Larry Robertson.

213. Mary "Polly" Walker

Scott Co census: 1880 (Taylor #272, Polly Walker, age 52, sister with
WilliamWalker)

217. James Walker

When this divorce took place in Scott County, Virginia, James was
living in Washington County - Virginia? Tennessee? I do not know.

38. Nancy Lane

She is speculated in this family as brother of Henry Lane. In the Hood
FamilyBible, there is a reference to John Lane's death, son of Henry,
suggesting that the Dutton Hood and Henry Lane family were close. As a
sister of Henry and son of John, Nancy would have been Dutton Hood's
first cousin, so marriagewould have been probable at that time.
"Sullivan Co Death Records," by Nikazywith death record for Martha A.
Coats
had Martha's parents as Dutton Hood and Nancy Lane, thus proving Nancy
to be a Lane and verifying family legends.
She is buried beside Dutton Hood. (Brenda Light, 2/2001) [she does not
have an engraved marker]

Dutton Rev Hood

REFN: 52
Methodist minister at Depews Chapel, Reservoir Rd, Kingsport, TN.

(Dist 12, #115)
Censuses say born in VA.
Orphaned to William Hendry.
Brugner, "Greene Co, Tenn Marriages 1783-1868"
Most descendants and information from Jim Easley. He got a lot of
information from Clella Lizetta "Dolly" Hood Crawford (Mrs Jasper
Crawford). Additional information from Robert Hood, Elizabethton, in
1996.
He contributed $4 for the building of Depews Chapel Meth Ch in May
1849 and was on the committee for building the church (firstnamed of
committee members)

222. Sarah Hood

In Easley School 1843-46.
She may have married Folser Whetsel?

225. John Hood

In Easley School 1843-46.
Per Dolly Crawford, he is bur near Benj Franklin Hood at Depews Chapel
- field
stone.

40. Henry James Lane

Sullivan Co, TN Census: 1850 (#1036), 1870 (13th Dist, #7).
Greene Co, TN census: 1860 (11th Dist, 812-757, 108-302, $0/$150; age
39 TN, 4 ch present; beside Samuel & Sarah Lane)
Scott Co 1880 census (Taylor #38).
Scott Co Death Records, cause was hard to read but may have been
measels, age 64, 2 mos, 8 days, parents not known, informant was Eliza
J. Lane, wife; gave his birthplace as Scott Co.
See note for son John. If John was a son of Henry, that is evidence
that Henry's father was also named John. In 1850, he lived 3 houses
fromDutton Hood, suggesting that he and Nancy Lane Hood were
brother-sister and that Dutton Hood was his first cousin.
Birth dates of family from James HunterLane's Family Bible via Donald
Franklin Lane. (Also verified with death records.)
According to Lawrence Blair via Donald F. Lane, Henry & Eliza Jane are
buried beside Abraham Z. & Barbara Lotts Lane.
He contributed $2 toward the building of Depews Chapel Meth Ch in May
1849.
The parents of Henry Lane are unproven, but there is good
circumstantial evidence that he was the son of John & Margaret Lane
and the grandson of Dutton & Mary Lane of Greene Co. He lived in
Sullivan Co, TN, in 1850 and 1870 near Bays Mountain near Depews
Chapel Church. He probably was a first cousin of Dutton Hood, pastor
of Depews Chapel, and brother of Dutton's wife Nancy Lane. Henry was
living in Greene Co,TN, in 1860. He was in Taylor District in Scott
Co, VA, in 1880, probably onCopper Ridge. He and Eliza Jane are
buried in unmarked graves beside AbrahamZ. and Barbara (Lotts) Lane
in the Carter-Lane Cemetery on Copper Ridge.
Grover Lane Bible has his name as James Henry Lane.

Eliza Jane Steadman

On 10/8/1998, Ruth Lane Arnold signed a statement that she was a
granddaughter of Henry Lane and Eliza Jane Stidman of Tennessee. Fred
Lane obtained thiscertification from her.
Speculated as being a dau of John Steadman Jr in the 1850 census near
Henry Lane in Sullivan Co, TN. John did not have a daughter in the
1830 census, but did have one 10-15 in the 1840 census?
Lola Hutchinshas some info indicating her name was Barbara? Jack Lane
told her that his grandparents were Henry & Barbara (Williams) Lane?
Birth date from James HunterLane's Family Bible via Donald Franklin
Lane.
Her surname Carter was told toDonald F. Lane by J.M. Estep, g-g-son
of Rebecca Hood. He said that she wasthe half sister of Henry Carter,
son of Elizabeth Crook. This would make herthe dau of George C.
Carter and his first wife. But she does not seem to be in the 1840
census with George Carter. Her being in the Carter family fits since
it would explain why they moved to Copper Ridge and why they are
buriedin the Carter Cem.
Osta Bates Lane thought she may have been a Hammonds (sister of
Epperson that
married Deborah Lane, and dau of Absolem.) The Hammonds were in
Sullivan Co
before 1850.
Another theory is that she was a Bray, dauof Sisly Bray, their next
door
neighbor in the 1850 census in Sullivan Co (#1037).

230. John Lane

From Dutton Hood's Family Bible in possession of Jim Easley, 1992,
gives as an
entry that "Aug 1, 1854 John Lane desceased, son of Henry." It is not
clear
that this is a child, but no other Henry is known.
If this fit is accurate,it is further evidence that Henry's father
would have
been named John sinceit was common to name the oldest son for his
grandfather.

41. Deborah "Debby" Lane

Name from "Families & History of Sullivan Co, TN," p. 444.
Scott Co Marriage Records 2-12-4. (Marr 2 as Hammonds, Parents as John
& Margaret Lane, gives Greene Co, TN as place of birth.)

43. Jane Lane

MARRIAGE: Brugner, "Greene Co, Tenn Marriages 1783-1868"

written by Harold & Sherry Smith, 405 Braketree Lane, Greenville, TN

47. David Lane

Several people question whether he is son of Benjamin, but he was
beside himin 1850 census, not far away in 1860 (#911 & #996), and
close by (#23 & #50)in 1870.
Scott Co census': 1850 (#1031), 1860 (#911), 1870 (Dekalb #23), 1880
(Dekalb #125).

Catherine Conn

David Lane found a reference in the book "Nickelsville Pioneers" which
has the church records. Levi? listed his parents as David & Catherine
Conn.
H.D. Kilgore's death record for Jessee Lane gives his parents as David
Lane and Kate Conn.
In the 1930 Scott Co census, John P. Conn, 74, VA, and Annie K. Conn,
40, WV, sing, were with James F. Lane as cousins. This is evidence
that hisgrandmother was a Conn.
Jessee Conn was the only Conn in Scott Co in 1830 with a daughter the
age of Catherine. She also could have been the daughter of Levi Conn
since he had 2 daughters <10 in 1820 census, but Levi was not in later
Scott Co censuses. It is puzzling since she named the 2nd son Levi and
the 3rd Jessee.
In her book, Fannie Steele suggested that she was the dau of William &
Margaret Kincannon Elliott, but that apparently is not correct.

261. John Lane

He prob died bef 1900 since Hannah was living with son John Likens in
1900 census.
Scott Co Marriage Records.
Civil War: CSA, Va 7th Cav, LANE, JOHN: Co.?. Widow Hannah claimed
service for her husband in thiis unit in her pensionapplication filed
in Scott Co.

Hannah C. or H. Likens

Living as widow with John Likens (son) in 1900 census. It looks like
her son
John Likens (b.1869) was born prior to her marriage to John Lane (m.
1879).
She must have had no other children.

268. James M. Lane

Scott Co Death Records.

269. James M. II Lane

Scott Co Birth Records. This may be the same reported in the death
records, but since this birth date is almost 1-1/2 yrs later, they may
have used the name again. Kept in the records as a reminder to look
for him later.
