Army, served 2 yrs, 9 mos, 29 days in Co G, 8th Tenn Inf), 1900
(Fulkerson #270, Birth given as 5/1846).
Family stories are that he married as many as six times. But his Bible
only give the marriage to Mary Boyer. He may have had a son Jack. His
daughter Lola was thought to have settled in Greene Co. (from Oleta
White Howard.)
There are marriages of a Samuel Lane in Greene Co in 1862 & 1865.

Birth date guessedfrom 1830 census.
On 10/27/1849, he sold his share of his father Abraham's land to John
R Carson. (Washington Co, Tenn, Deed Book 33-55.) The deed was not
finalized until 11/21/1851 the same day as the settlement from Hannah
Lane.
Civil War: CSA, Co A, 25th Va Cav. Enlisted on 8/28/1862 in Scott Co,
VA at age 33; Less than two weeks later on 8/28/1862, he was reported
as absent without leave.
Civil War: Union, Co G, 8th Tenn Inf; joined on 3/1/1863 in Greene Co,
TN for 3 yrs. Mustered in as Pvt at Camp Nelson, KY on 6/30/1863, age
35. One entry showed "Deserted in Greene Co, Tenn 10/20/1863." Another
entry showed "deserted at Watson's Mill on 11/1/1863." Samuel Lane was
never paidfor his service time and his military record is very
confusing. Apparently he claimed to have been taken prisoner and
confined at Richmond, Va as a notation in his military record from
Richmond shows "no record of a Samuel Lane subsequent to Jun 1863."
Pvt Samuel Lane appeared on the muster out roll for his regiment on
6/30/1865 in NC and his age was listed as 31. (from Barnett McConnell)
Middle name from Richard's marriage (as Isaac R.).
