A Samuel Ross was in the 1850 census, age 16, with Hugh & Delilah Ross
in Wayne Co, VA/WV. He was not with them in 1860 nor can a marriage
record be foundfor him. He does not appear in the 1860 census record.
(A Samuel Ross, age 36, with wife Adaline, age 32, in Wayne Co, VA/WV,
#492, in 1860 had childrenb. in 1840s and was too old to be this
Samuel Ross)
Greene Co Marriage Records to Sarah Hatley.
Scott Co Marriage Records 3-41-19 to Matilda Eaton. Both single. Age
55, son of ___ & Lilah.
This Samuel Lane has not been found in any other Scott Co, VA records.
Greene Co census: 1860 (Dist 11, #724-703, $0/$100; age 21 VA; wife
Sarah, 21; Dau Mary, 2 mos; Lived with Benjamin (58) andRachel (57)
Carter and their 2 ch, Henry (23) and Litten (19))
Speculated asthe Samuel Lane who was the father of Jackson Lane of
KY.
Query note (4/1999) from Carolyn "Tootie" Barker a gr-g-dau of Samuel
Lane. She said he was born in Scott Co, VA, and married Minnie Brown,
possibly in Elliott Co, KY, andhad at least one son, Jackson.
In 1900 census, Jackson Lane's father was bornin Va, mother in Ky.
I have found Samuel Lane and a Jemima, married in RowanCounty,
Kentucky. They're located in 1870 Rowan Co. Census, PO Morehead,
Christy Creek Precinct, Page 2, House #10, MF page 96B.
Lane, Samuel 35 Farmer$100 Ky Jemima 36 KyOnly thing it
states they were both born in Kentucky. There is a William Brown, 38,
in House # 7 and in House # 12 there isa Joshua Dehart, 27. I believe
this is my Samuel Lane and Jemima Brown. Jemima Brown's mother was
Mary "Polly" Dehart. So this looks pretty good. What'syour opinion?

Matilda J. Eaton

I have a picture of Tilda taken with her mother, father, some people
I'm notsure of, a sister in law, a lot of children, and my great
grandmother. It wastaken in Virginia. There is a child on Tilda's
lap. I haven't a clue if it'sher child or not, but would hazard a
guess that it is. On the back is the names of the people. The name
next to Tilda's, which is labeled "Your Aunt" is"Enzie" and I'm
assuming it's the baby on her lap. She's sitting next to Ben,and
there's a toddler sitting on his lap and that name is "Jim". Who
belongs to who, I haven't a clue, other than there is a few labels
that name nameslike Rossie ? Rarrie? Rorrie? (Can't quite figure that
one out) Your first Cousin, Mary your Aunt, Ernest your first cousin,
Bertha Your Aunt, and the rest, other than Ben and Rebecca, are just
names. This picture has To Ruby fromMomma. Ruby Eaton was my
Grandmother, daughter of Ethel Maude. If you want,I'll try to photo
copy the picture and label the people, and mail it to you.Maybe you
can get something to follow up on out of it. Let me know. I'll do some
checking with the older ones of the family and see if they remember
anything about Tilda, where she went, and what happened to her after
my GG, G, and Grandmother moved to Oklahoma. The back of the picture
says that it was taken August 19, 1910. (from Deborah Carnott, Box
303, Calumet, OK 73014, <Djcarnott@cs.com>, 6/2002)
Scott Co Census: 1910 (Fulk #2-165, sing, age 28, no ch, living with
her parents)
The 1910 census data suggests that the baby in Matilda Lane's lap was
born after the 1910 census was taken. It is possible that the baby was
truly a Lane and born just after the census.

Jemimah "Minnie" Brown

I have found Samuel Lane and a Jemima, married in Rowan County,
Kentucky. They're located in 1870 Rowan Co. Census, PO Morehead,

36.Only thing it states they were both born in Kentucky. There is a
William Brown in House # 7 and in House #12 there is a Joshua Dehart.
I believe this is my Samuel Lane and Jemima Brown. Jemima Brown's
mother was Mary "Polly" Dehart. So this looks pretty good. What's your
opinion? (from Carolyn "Tootie" Barker, 3/2002)
