When Mason & Dixon Lines Inc. began operations with one truck in 1930,
I. Nelson Taylor was the first driver hired to operate it. Taylor, 73,
of 808 Mimosa Dr, died in Holston Valley Community Hospital at 3 p.m.
Saturday after an illness of several weeks.
Born in Scott County, Va., he had lived in Kingsport for 50 years. He
retired from Mason & Dixon in 1966 after 36 years with the company,
which has grown into one of the nation's largest motor freight lines.
He attended Stone Drive United MethodistChurch. Surviving are his
widow, Mrs. Aliene Enix Taylor; daughters, Mrs. Joe (Frieda) Peak and
Mrs. Robert (June) Hilton, both of Kingsport; sisters, Mrs. Ethel
Blessing, Mrs. Polly Nickels, Mrs. Nannie Riddlc, Mrs. Jo Sattie
Taylor and Mrs. Hannah Thompson, all of Kingsport; brothers, Orville,
Kingsport; Hugh and Farley, both of Harrisburg, Pa., and Hobert Taylor
of Florida; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

KINGSPORT - Hobart C. Taylor, 87, Preston Place, went to be with The
Lord Sunday (Jan. 7, 2001) at Indian Path Medical Center following a
brief illness.
Mr. Taylor was a native of Scott County, Va., and had resided in Oak
Ridge, Tenn., where he was a chemical supervisor at K-25.
Prior to working at Oak Ridge, he worked at TEC as a chemical
supervisor. Mr. Taylor was a veteran of World War II, having served in
the U.S.Army.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church (PCA), where he was
a Trustee. He was also a member of the American Legion Hammond Post
No. 3 and the AMVETS.
Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by six brothers and six sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Virginia Adams Taylor, of the home;
daughter,Norma Sue Ketola and husband, Carl, Rochester, N.Y.; son,
Ronald W. Taylor and wife, Carol, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; four
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews
and cousins.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral
Home Chapel, downtown.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home
chapel with The Rev. G. BrentBradley officiating.
Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memory Gardens following theservices.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hobart C.Taylor; two
brothers, Worley Adams Sr. and Charlie Hansel Adams; her parents,
James William Adams and Francis Melinda Holbrook Adams; and an infant
great-grandson, Joshua William Bedford.
Surviving are her son, Ronald Wayne Taylor and wife Carol of Oak
Ridge, Tenn.; her daughter, Norma Sue Ketola and husband Carl of
Oklahoma City, Okla.; four grandchildren, Catherine Taylor, Michael
Taylor and wife Julie, Sarah Bedford and husband Jeffrey, and Stephen
Ketola and wife Regina; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Sarah
CopheneVaughn, Goldie Ruth Dobber, Margie Arlene Bailey and Viola
Adams, all of Kingsport; two brothers, Albert Beecher Adams,
Nederland, Tex., and James Ervin Adams, Rock Hill, S.C.
