KINGSPORT - Johnny E.Hammonds, 87, entered into God's garden Saturday
(July 5, 2003) at his residence surrounded by family and friends.
Mr. Hammonds was born in Scott County, Va., on June 8, 1916, son of
the late Newt and Nancy Estepp Hammonds. He was retired from Tennessee
Eastman Company.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John
Henry Hammonds; his first wife, Lucille Castle Hammonds; stepmother,
Virginia McDavid Hammonds; stepson, Larry Laney; sister, Lula
Jennings; brother, Bradley Hammonds; and daughter-in-law, Phyllis
Vineyard Hammonds.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Stanley Hammonds, Kingsport; sons
and daughters-in-law, Donald Hammonds, Danny and Gail Hammonds,
Charles and Charlotte Hammonds, all of Kingsport; stepdaughter and
stepson-in-law, Linda and Leonard Crawford, Kingsport; stepson and
stepdaughter-in-law,Curtis and Linda Laney, Nickelsville, Va.;
grandchildren, Kim Lewis, Steven Hammonds, Anthony Hammonds, Robin
Colvard, Christy Meade, Andy Crawford, DavidLaney Rachel Laney and
Cheri Hodges. Also surviving are his sisters, LizzieTipton, Nanny
Jones and Eddie Spivey, all of Gate City, Va., and Shirley Tipton,
Weber City, Va.; brothers, Odel Hammonds, Bob Hammonds, Ray Hammonds,
Gene and Jim Hammonds, all of Kingsport, Bill Hammonds, Gray and Ben
Hammonds,Gate City, Va.; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces
and nephews; andspecial friend and pastor, Rev. Joe Hill.
The family would like to thank Wellmont Hospice and special nurse,
Eleanor Graham.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Holston View
Cemetery, Weber City, Va. Family andfriends will be meeting at the
funeral home at 10:15 a.m. today to go in procession to the graveside
service.
Steven Hammonds, Freddie Hicks, Burl Ketron, Leonard Crawford, Andy
Crawford, Buddy Castle, David Laney and Anthony Hammonds will serve as
pallbearers.
Jerry Lewis and Rick Meade will serve as honorary pallbearers.

GATE CITY, Va. - Rev.William Henderson Jones, 84, of Route 6, entered
into rest Saturday evening (Jan. 13, 2001) at his residence after an
extended illness.
Rev. Jones was born March 5, 1916 in Scott County, Va., a son of the
late James Beverly and Nancy Hale Jones.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two
sisters, Fannie Carter and Florence Smith; four brothers, Leonard,
Edward, Lester and Lloyd Jones; two grandsons, David and Billy Randal
Bellamy.
Before his illness, he was an evangelist for over 50 years,
ministering in Scott County, Va., Hawkins, and Sullivan Counties. In
his early ministry he walked to Bellamy Town and other churches. Only
in his later years did he know theluxury of an automobile.
Rev. Jones is survived by his wife, Nannie M. Jones,Gate City, Va.;
two daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Nancy (Berl) Houseright,
Kingsport, and Mrs. Charlotte (Billy) Bellamy, Gate City, Va.; one son
anddaughter-in-law, James and Patsy Carrico Jones, Gate City, Va.;
three brothers, Kyle Jones, Gate City, Va., Robert Jones, Kingsport,
and Banner Jones, Weber City, Va.; seven grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and
nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home
and other times at the residence in the Red Hill Community of Gate
City, Va.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Gene Falin
Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. MacSanders and the
Rev. Jimmy Combs officiating.
Music will be provided by theUpward Way Quartet.
Burial will be in the Hammond Family Cemetery, Copper Ridge section of
Scott County, following the service.
Pallbearers will be JamesJones, Steve Jones, Bill Smith, Danny
Spivey, Kyle Jones Jr.; Christopher Hammonds, Jack France and Don
Flanary.
Minister friends, Lubert Hammonds, Kelly Carter, Milligan Herron,
Vernon McDavid, Eckel Herron, Joe Hill, and Gene Stallard will serve
as honorary pallbearers.

Betty Ruth Sellers

KINGSPORT - Betty Ruth Hammonds, 73, went to be in the beautiful
garden withthe Lord on Saturday (July 12, 2003) at Wellmont Holston
Valley Medical Center.
She was born in Cherryville, N.C., and had been a resident of
Kingsport most of her life. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed
being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to
everyone. She enjoyed her cats and was a dispatcher for West View Cab
Service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carrie Ola Sellers and Jake
Sellers Sr.; brothers, Carl Sellers and Junior Sellers; infant baby,
Bradley Odell Hammonds.
Survivors include her husband, Odell Hammonds, Kingsport; three
daughters, Angela Seaver and husband Bobby of Mount Carmel, Sybil
Jeannette Galloway and husband Ed of Mount Carmel, Sue Conkin and
husband Jackie of Kingsport; two sons, Larry Hammonds, and David
Hammonds and wife Wanda, all of Kingsport; nine grandchildren,
Michelle Woods, Eddie Galloway, Eric Crowe, Jason Conkin, Hannah
Conkin,Dustin and Vanetti Hammonds, Heather Watts, Brent Hammonds; 11
great-grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Ramsey of North Carolina,
Katheryn Powers of Ohio, Brenda Gilliam of Nashville, Patsy Coffey of
Ohio, Alline Powers and Vernie Clark, both of Wise, Va.; and several
nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will befrom 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Funeral
Home. The family will also receive friends at the home of her son,
David Hammonds, 804 Camden Drive.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home
chapel with Pastor Mike Stout, Gale Hartley and Raymond Hammonds
officiating.
Committal services will follow in the mausoleum at Oak Hill Memorial
Park.
The staff of Oak Hill Funeral Home is serving the Hammonds family.

with the family holding his hand Monday (Sept. 2, 2002) at his
residence.
Mr. Spivey was born December 20, 1928 in Scott County, Va., to the
late Wrightly D. Spivey and Dona McDavid Spivey; paternal
grandparents,John and Dicey Ervin Spivey and maternal grandparents,
Jim and Cora McDavid.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Emily
Kathleen Spivey; one brother, Claude Spivey; granddaughter, Chasity
Spivey.
Mr. Spivey retired from Holliston Mills after 43 years of employment.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Ettie Marie Hammonds Spivey,
Gate City; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Wayne and Carol Spivey,
Gate City, Danny R. and Debbie Spivey, Gate City; sisters, Elois
Wolfenburger, Clinchport, Va., Ida Mae Hammock, Cincinnati, Ohio,
Dorothy Hammonds, Gate City, Va.; brothers, John, Don and Orville
Spivey, all of Gate City; eight grandchildren, Mick, Lori, Chad,
Danielle, Kara, Zeke, Isaiah and Jake; four great-grandchildren,
Cheyenne, Caleb, Chantay and Chase; best friend, Charlie Clayton
Hammonds, Gate City; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today in the Juanita S. Falin
Chapel of the Gate City Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Gene Falin
Memorial Chapel ofthe funeral home with the Rev. Jimmy Combs and,
honorary minister, the Rev.Claude Lane officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Hammonds Cemetery,Copper Ridge
community.
Grandsons, Mick, Chad, Zeke, Isaiah, Jake Spivey, special friends and
members of the Gate City High School football team, Chris Hammonds,
