GATE CITY, Va. - Gertrude V. Akers, 88, entered into rest Friday (Aug.
30, 2002) at the Brian Center Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 5, 1913 in Scott County, Va., she was of the Baptist faith
and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Etta Lane.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
William Howard Taft Akers; sisters, Omma Laneand Lillian Baldwin;
brothers, Ross Lane and Ulysses (Jack) Lane; and one granddaughter,
Pamela Kim Akers.
Surviving are two sons, William Kyle Akers andwife, Vena, Duffield,
Va., and Harry L. Akers Sr., and wife, Geneva, Gate City, Va.;
brother, Willard Jay Lane, Mount Carmel; grandchildren, Harry Akers
Jr. and wife, Ginger, Jennifer Akers and Ron Stewart, Anita Summey and
husband, Junior, Belinda Bumbalough and husband, Donnie and Raymond
Akers; great-grandchildren, Harry Akers III, Shawn M. Akers, April and
Erica Summey, Rebecca Miller and husband, Jason and Steven Gilliam.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the Gene Falin Memorial
Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. JimmyCombs officiating.
Music will be provided by the Mabe Quartet.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Carter
Cemetery, Copper Ridge community. The family will be meeting at the
cemetery for the graveside services.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

morning (Aug. 12, 2000) at her residence.
Born May 7,1925 in Scott County, Va., she was a daughter of the late
Worley and Mary Lane Hammonds.
Mrs. Bellamy was of the Baptist faith, a homemaker and was a lifelong
resident Scott County.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband,
R.S. (Syl) Bellamy; a daughter, Nina Lee Fields; two sisters, Irene
Gillenwater and Ruby Hammonds; two brothers, Kenny and William
Hammonds.
BellamySurviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy and Mike
Brickey, Tammy and Joey Alley; one son and daughter-in-law, Nelson and
JoyceWilliams, all of Gate City; two stepsons and their wives, Joe
and Jackie Bellamy, Wayne (Babe) and Phyllis Bellamy, Gate City;
grandchildren, Kitty and Ray Mann, Kevin and Beth Williams; step
grandchildren, Lisa and Mike Cassell,April Bellamy and Jo Anna

of the funeral home with the Rev. Claude Lane and Elder Scott Tipton
officiating.
Music will be provided by Amy and Kala Tipton and Patsy Hensley, Cora
Brickey and Laura Luttrell.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ervin
Cemetery on Copper Ridge, in the Manville community of Scott County,
Va.
J.B. Broadwater, Paul Fields, Jake Gilliam, Babe Bellamy, Joe Bellamy
and Kevin Williams will serve as pallbearers.
Peanut Laneand Cecil Estep will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will be meetingat 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in
procession to the graveside service.
