GATE CITY, Va. - Maxie Lee Smith Davidson, 83, of Route 2, passed away
Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at the Hospice House in Bristol, Tenn.
She was born in Scott County, Va., on December 6, 1918 to the late Dr.
Robert Allen and Emma Lou Carico Smith. She was a homemaker and a
member of Midway United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Joseph Eugene (Gene) Davidson, June, 2, 1988; three sisters, Chloe
Cleo Smith, Izetta Smith and Nila Smith; two brothers, Rudolph and
Ralph Smith.
Surviving are a son, Larry Gene Davidson, and daughter-in-law, Janet
Davidson, Gate City; daughter, Janet D. Ketron, Kingsport; sister,
Lorene Gillenwater, Gate City; grandchildren, Kim Davidson, Becky
Ketron, Joe Davidson, Travis Ketron, Josh Ketron, Matthew Davidson;
one great-grandchild due in June; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home,
Weber City, Va., or anytime at her residence.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. Monday
with the Rev. Don Large officiating.
Music will be provided by the Midway United Methodist Choir.
Burialwill follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews: Joe Davidson, Travis
Ketron, Josh Ketron, Matthew Davidson, Terry Gillenwater, Jim Smith,
Johnny Renfro, Mike Renfro and Jason Davidson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Smith, Sammy Gillenwater, Bobby
Gillenwater, Bruce Culbertson and the Adult Sunday School Class of
Midway United Methodist Church.

KINGSPORT - Preston E. Kensler Sr.,93, of Abingdon, Va., died Sunday
afternoon (Aug. 4, 2002) at the Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his father George Kensler, and mother Lucy
Kensler Kent; one son, Preston E. Kensler Jr.; three sisters, Bonnie
Fields, Hattie Mae Ramey and Emily Perry.
Surviving are his daughter, Peggy Kensler Boyd and her husband George
of Kingsport; six grandchildren, Orville "Butch" Rhoton Jr. of Merced,
Calif., Preston "Skip" Rhoton of Bermuda Dunes, Calif., Vincent J.
Kensler of Lake Monticello, Va., Karen Timmons of Florence, S.C.,
Howard Hamilton of Kingsport, and Laura Hamilton of Reading, Pa.;six
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside serviceswill be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Oak Hill
Memorial Park with Pastor Danny Sykes officiating.

Medical Center.
A native of Scott County, she attended Radford College and taught
school in the Scott County School System for 36 years.

Lord at 7:10 p.m. Friday (May 23, 2003) at The Wexford House Health
Care.
Formerly of Edison, Tenn., he made his home in Kingsport since 1982.
He was a retired mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service.
He was a member of Independence Methodist Church, Edison, Tenn.
He was a loving dad, and a generous person to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Moneyhun Brickey, 1985;
parents, Daniel and Ella Cosby Lawson Brickey; infant son, Lonnie; two
sisters, Edna Martin and Gladys Bragg; three brothers, Ed Brickey,
Scott Brickey, Clarence Brickey; and son-in-law, Robert L. Horton.
Surviving are his daughters, Glenna Brickey Horton and Addie Brickey
Pearson and husband Sam, all of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Tom
Pearson and wife Susie, Samuel L. Pearson and wife Jan, Mike Pearson
and wife Jan, Dennis Horton and wife Donna, Bobby Horton; nine
great-grandchildren; a special friend, Virgie Adams.

CLINCHPORT, Va. - Emma J. Kern Lawson, 93, Route 4, Box 102A2, went to
be with the Lord Thursday (Jan. 15, 2004) at Holston Valley Medical
Center after an extended illness.
She was born in Scott County, Va. and had lived there her entire life.
Mrs. Lawson was of the Baptist faith.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and
great-great-grandmother and will be missed by all that knew her.
She was precededin death by her first husband, Ray Kern; second
husband, John Lawson; daughter, Easter Olene Kern; parents, William
and Loudellia McDavid; sister, Louvensus Stanley; brother, Rev.
Clifton Henry McDavid; grandson, Larry Grizzle; andgranddaughter,
Sharon Grizzle.
