sergeant with the U.S. Air Force.
He was the son of the late Guy and Myrtle Lucille Ball.
In additionto his parents, he was preceded in death by his first
wife, Mary Katherine Ball; two sisters, Hazel "Sis" McConnell and
Carol Summey; two brothers, Delmarand Willard Ball; and his
stepmother, Ruby Ball.
Surviving are his wife, Cheryl Ball, Dublin, Va.; one daughter, Mrs.
Roger (Vickie) Dowdy; six sons, Rick Ball, Scott Ball and Charles
Ball, all of Kingsport, Eddie Ball, Virginia,John Ball and Jason
Ball, Michigan; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters,
Shirley McClellan, Kingsport, Frankie Taylor, Church Hill and Helen
Nuckles, Indiana; one brother, Allen Ball, Blountville; one stepson,
Danny Fields, Gate City, Va.; and his pride and joy, Munchkin and
many, many friends.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Gene Falin
Memorial Chapelof the funeral home with the Rev. Claude Lane
officiating.

Ridge community of Scott County, Va., with military graveside rites
conducted by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the V.F.W.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Alfred Gillenwater, 1975; daughter, Andrea Gillenwater, 1988; brothers
and sisters, Palmer Kendrick, Elmer Kendrick, Broadus Kendrick, Earl
Clifford Kendrick, Ida Hensley, Nannie Simmons, Jolene Quillen and
Mildred Kendrick.

2000) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a lengthy

Mr. Turner was born in Wise County, Va., and lived most of his life in
Kingsport.
Mr. Turner was a member of Ketron Memorial United Methodist Church.
He was a loving husband to his late wife, Mary Turner, of 57 years.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Air Force at Pearl
Harbor.
Mr. Turner retired from the Mead Corporation in 1980, after 30 years
ofemployment.
Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Turner (Nov. 9,
2000); and brother, Claude Turner.
Surviving are his daughters, Bonnie Turner Beverly and husband, Larry,
Kingsport, and Patty Turner, Kingsport; son, David Turner and wife,

IRVING,Tex. - Clyde P. Lane, 88, died Wednesday (Sept. 22, 2004) at
Baylor MedicalCenter at Irving.
A native of Scott County, Va., he lived in Kingsport for many years.
He had lived in Irving since 1962. He was the son of the late Hiram
Wiley Lane, Kingsport and Relia Storm, Watseka, Ill.
Mr. Lane was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Hazel Hill
Lane in 2000; and a son, Walter C. Lane in 1987.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Thomas D. Lane, Elizabethton and Robert E.
Lane, Huntsville, Tex.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren;
and a special friend, Yvonne Schoolfield.
He was a 1935 graduate of Dobyns-Bennet High School (one of Coach
Sprankle's "boys"), and he worked for 25 years at Kingsport Press as a
Monotype operator/machinist. This tenure was interrupted by service in
the U.S. Navy during World War II. He joined Lanston Monotype Company
in 1959 as their sales and service representative in the southwestern
United States. He ended his long career in the printing trade as a
sales consultant for Commercial Typesetting Company in Dallas. He was
for many years a member of the International Typographical Union and
was a graduateof the Monotype School and the Texas Printing
Industries Association's SalesSchool. He was a longtime member of the
Association of Industrial Advertisers, the Texas Litho Club, the
Craftman's Club of Texas and other organizations.
He was a life-member of the American Legion (Hammond Post No. 3 in
Kingsport) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He and his wife were very
active volunteers in the 1950's, often involved with the American
Legion Carnival, the VAHospital and other efforts. Mr. Lane was a
scoutmaster, and he organized thefirst Sea Scout group in the area.
They were also avid square dancers.
The family requests donations to the American Heart Association.
