Scott Co census: 1900 (Dekalb #261), 1910 (Dekalb #342 as div, with
Sylvester, Lucy & Levi), 1920 (Dekalb #203 living alone as widower).
There was a divorce of Thomas R. and Sarah Lane Nov 1907; it may have
been this
family. Thus the record shows a divorce.
Scott Co Marriage Records to Begley shows her as a widow.

Had nephews Edely and Hop (div) in 1920. Apparently, he had no
surviving children.

In 1910 Scott Co census, she is hired by Elbert. She is shown as
widowedand as having had 3 children, with 2 living. Bertha Brickey
was present as aniece - assumed to be her dau.
She was with Miles Lane, her son-in-law, in the 1930 Scott Co census.
(from Delmar Fraysier)
As Sarah E. in 1860 census.
There seem to be only one good option for the identity of Nancy Lawson
[as the mother of Lizzie Lawson], Possibly she was thedaughter of
John Lawson and Rachel Dockery. They had a Nancy E, (Elizabeth?)who
was born around 1853. She married a Jonas Lykens from Floyd Co.,, KY
in 1879. She would have been around 30 when Lizzie Lawson was born
but, unless her husband had died I don't know why she would have had a
child with Lane. I could not find any additional info about the
family. (from Ken Lawson, 5/2001)
1027. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Lawson
Wise Co Marriage Records, age 23, wd, dau of Elbert Lane & Nancy
Lawson.
Lizzie was assumed to be the Elizabeth Likens in the 1880 census. Ages
do not match too closely, but that is not too unusual.
Wise Co Marriage Records, age 33, wd, miner, son of Berry & Larew
Williams.
Wise Co Census: 1910 (Gladeville Dist 132, #497, miner, age 38, m2-7,

Names of children from censuses and their marriage records.
If he was the same Nath Lane, father of Mary Lane, he became blind in
late years. Magdalene Gibson Castle remembered his visiting them, and
she wasborn in 1916.
I had her married to _____ Collins before finding the cemetery records
that shows her with Andy Gibson.
Her name was given as Matilda Carico Lane in Orbin Lane's obituary.
Her name was given as Sarah Carico in George Lane's marriage record.

which according to Birth Records was a slave. Need to confirm if there
was a son Thomas.
He was in the25th Virginia Cavalry Regiment, Confederate Army, also
known as the 27th Virginia Cavalry Battalion Partisan Rangers.
Henry A. Lane joined in September of1862 to serve in the 25th VA
Cavalry. He had already served in the Scott County Militia. He was
promoted to Corp, and then Sergt, and was killed in Juneof 1864 at
Piedmont, VA. He was a farmer, 23 at the time of enlistment.

known as the 27th Virginia Cavalry Battalion Partisan Rangers.
Date of death from notes of Jean Kinsler Horton via Gary & Roberta
Harrell.
She had 2 children (Sarah & Elizabeth) when she married James W. Lane.
Apparently, they were out of wedlock since the marriage record says
she was singleand the children have her maiden name in the census. It
is possible that James W. Lane was their father. James is shown as
widowed in 1900 Scott Co census
1044. Mary Eveline S. Lane
Scott Co Marriage Records. (as E. S. Lane), age 23 in 1895.

1880 & 1900 Scott Co census.
274. Benjamin Harvey Lane
From Fannie Steele's book: Ben was first in the Confederate Army
during the Civil War. He deserted. He, Mary and twins went to KY where
he was in the Union Army. The twins died during the trip. After the
war, they returned to ScottCo.
Family tradition says that he changed the name spelling to Layne to
make it difficult for anyone to prove he was in the Confederate Army
(probably after moving to KY). They moved to KY (Pikeville?) at some
time (after 1880),and Mary died there.
Scott Co census': 1870 (Dekalb #36), 1880 (Dekalb #67, 5ch present).

dwlane@tricon.net Do you have any information on the following family?
This is what I have, however it was sent to me and I'm trying to
verify it. Benjamin Lane(Layne) was born May 1844 in Scott Co., VA,
and died 1909 in Ky. He married Mary Strong April 7, 1863 in Scott Co.
She was born Abt 1842 in Scott Co., Va, and died in VA(?) Benjamin and
Mary's children are John 1867, James 1870, Benjamin1873, William
1877, Oscar 1879, Frank 1887, and Emma 1888. William Layne married an
Elizabeth Sturgill in Knott co. Ky Abt 1898. The information on
William and Elizabeth was confirmed by my mother (William's
granddaughter)

Children from notes of Ruby Kinsler via Phyllis Peterson.
Date of death from Ed Nickels' notes.
Scott Co census: 1900 (Dekalb #118, m-16, 8-6 ch, 6 ch present).
Both parents and some children died of fever about 1900.
281. Frances Nancy Louisa Phoebe Levina Lane
Scott Co Marriage Records.
Her name is confusing. Name used is from Ruby Kinsler, her dau-in-law,
via
Phyllis Peterson. Another record(?) had Frances Nancy Mary Johanna?
Her
tombstone has Frances N. Kinsler.
The 3 young childrenare speculated on the ones in the cemetery
records.
Scott Co census: 1900 (Dekalb #86 w/o Frances)
She died with the twin infants. (from notes of Jean Kinsler Horton)
He was a cooper and cobbler. It was said that he was a very hard
worker, often in the fields before day-break.
He probably died of a disease called elephantiasis. It was said that
he had rheumatism and drank a small amount of kerosine each day. He
became bed-ridden and had no feeling in his flesh. His fleshwas so
hard and rigid that it could not be pinched. (from notes of Jean
Kinsler Horton via Gary & Roberta Harrell)

children
(Dekalb #162). With Samuel in 1920 (Dekalb #277).
Fannie Steele's book (p 82) shows her as married to Henry Lane, but
that was probably Henry Lawson. She probably m. Henry Lawson after
1900, but there is no record. The children went by Lawson.
Scott Co Cemetery Books (Vol 2, p. 192) gives (Rachel Larew Lane
Lawson
Peoples).
Scott Co Marriage Records 3-78-7 as Larue Lane 46 wd, dau ofDave &
___ Lane. (Marr to Peoples).
She could possibly have been David Lane's dau and reared by John M.
Lane, or maybe John's dau and reared by David Lane? She was with John
& Susannah in the 1870 and 1880 Scott Co censuses.
Notes from Ruby Kinsler via Phyllis Peterson had her married to Henry
Lawson
with 5 children, but no dates. Those children are added - they must
have been
born after 1900 since none of the names match those in 1900 census.
Glenna Brickey Horton did not recall those children, so they probably
were Henry Lawson's children by another wife?
Scott Co Birth Records abstracted by J.N. Adams. No name was given.
Date of death from notes of Ed Nickels.
She was a "single"boarder of Henry Lawson in 1900 census with 4
children
(Dekalb #162). WithSamuel in 1920 (Dekalb #277).
Fannie Steele's book (p 82) shows her as marriedto Henry Lane, but
that was probably Henry Lawson. She probably m. Henry Lawson after
1900, but there is no record. The children went by Lawson.
Scott Co Cemetery Books (Vol 2, p. 192) gives (Rachel Larew Lane
Lawson
Peoples).
Scott Co Marriage Records 3-78-7 as Larue Lane 46 wd, dau of Dave &
___ Lane.(Marr to Peoples).
Shown as husband in Fannie Steel's book, p 82. He was dead or divorced
in 1900 census when Rachel was listed as a "single" boarder of Henry
