DUNGANNON, Va. - Dayton E. Sluss, 83, went to be with the Lord
Saturday (Nov. 8, 2003) at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.
He was born in Scott County, Va., on March 20, 1920, a son of the late
Lilburn and Molly Sluss. He was a dedicated deacon at Dungannon First
Freewill Baptist Church since 1954. Mr. Sluss retired from Clinchfield
Railroad after 34years of service.
He was a loving husband, daddy, papaw and friend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister,
Maxine Surgenor; brother, Kyle Sluss; three half-sisters and two
half-brothers.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Pearl (Hill) Sluss, of the home;
daughter, Mrs. Earl (Linda) Bishop of Duffield, Va.; son, Stanley
Dayton Sluss and wife Diana Sluss of Church Hill; grandchildren,
Michelle (Penny) Morelock, Eddie Bishop, Cheryl Peters, Stanley
"Eddie" Sluss II and Eric Sluss; great-grandchildren, Allan Qualls,
Eric Qualls, Hunter Bishop, Austin Peters, Samantha Peters, Kourtney
Sluss; great-great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Qualls; sisters and
brothers-in-law, Mozella Brickey, Gray, Mrs. Frank (Gladys) Delph,
Church Hill, Mrs. C.W. (Mildred) McCullough, Alamo, Ga., and Ruby
Napier, Johnson City; brother and sister-in-law, Woodrow and Maggie
Sluss, Kingsport; his little buddy, Abby; and several nieces and
nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Holston View
Cemetery. The family will be meeting at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m.
to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Stanley "Eddie" Sluss II, Eddie Bishop, Alan
Qualls, Eric Qualls, Jeff Peters, RayBlevins and Gary Morelock.
Honorary pallbearers will be Monroe Blevins, Richard Simpson, Dallas

DUNGANNON, Va. - Charles "Bear" Sluss, 66, passed away Wednesday
(April 28, 2004) at his residence.
He was born in Scott County, Va., a son of the late Nathan Arnold
Sluss and Alice Dooley Sluss.
In addition to his parents, he waspreceded in death by his brother,
Dale Edward Sluss.
He was a farmer and loved to help other people with their farming. He
enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Kerns Sluss, of the home; stepdaughter
and husband, Bambi and Billy Bowen, Rye Cove, Va.; special aunt, Edna
Lucas, Dungannon; special cousin, Judy Blevins, Dungannon; nephew and
