375. Kezia Anne Rhoton

Scott Co Census: 1870 (Dun Mill #67 with James Rhoton, with children
Tabitha4 and Logan 1)
Scott Co Marriage Records 2-8-31.
She was not with the familyin the 1850 census. We had previously
thought that she was the same as Anna,but later records for John
Estep indicated that Kezia and Anna are different(twins?).
Eula Mae McNutt thought Kezia had one child by Elijah Childress andit
died.
Elijah Childress died in the Civil War. Others think that Bythey was
his daughter.


Lewis Hood

Family from 1870 (Powell #335), 1880 (Powell #223) Scott Co census
and from Rufus Hood, Jr notes. He got info from Dona Hood Arrington.
Lee Co, Va census: 1900 (Yokum Sta, #185, m-34, 8-6 ch), 1910 (Yocum
Sta Dist 39, #61, 8-6 ch, 3ch present)
Scott Co Marriage Records. (she as Robertson)
He was in the 25thVirginia Cavalry Regiment, Confederate Army, also
known as the 27th VirginiaCavalry Battalion Partisan Rangers.
He was a Pvt, Co F, 2 Regt, No Car Mtd InfVol, Federal Army.
Discharged at Knoxville, Tenn, July 1866. Fair complexion, blue eyes,
light hair. Another record showed an injured back at Tazewell, Tenn,
on 2/10/1865 and discharged on June 1865. Enlisted 12/20/1864. Another
record shows him mustered out on Aug 16, 1865. He was dropped from the
pension rolls ($8) on 11/13/1896.

He was postmaster for many years at Pattonsville. He moved to Jasper,
Va, in 1885 where he was postmaster for 17 yrs. In1912, he moved to
East Stone Gap. Information from his obituary supplied byJanice Mason
Combs.
Children's birthdates from his pension record. Years areuncertain
since record gave month & day and age.
There is a certification form in the Scott Co Courthouse on 5/12/1866
saying that Louis Hood is 22 yrsof age, signed by John Hood and
witnessed by William Hood. It suggests that his birthdate was 1844
rather than 1845.

Elijah Childress

Scott Co census: 1860 (#1811, incl William, age 1)
He enlisted in Co C, 21st Va Infantry and 64th Va Infantry, CSA, at
Camp Lane, Lee Co, on 10/17/1861. Taken POW at Cumberland Gap on
9/9/1863. Sent to Camp Douglas on 9/24/1863 where he was held until he
died 3/3/1865 of pneumonia. (Jeffrey Weaver, "64th Virginia Infantry,"
p. 129.

Scott Co Death Records, age and cause not given orunreadable on
microfilm, Consort of Jacob Flanary. There was a child (not named),
son of Jacob & Rebecca, who also died in 1873. She probably died of
childbirth.

Scott Co Death Records, age and cause not given or unreadable on
microfilm; Parents: Jacob & Rebecca Flanary. Reported by Jacob
Flanary. (Rebecca apparently died at the same time.)


382. Elizabeth L. "Lizzie" Rhoton

Scott Co Marriage Records 2-62-31.
She is in 1870 census, but it is not clearwhose child she is. Placed
here
until it is figured out. The first Elizabethdied 1863, and they could
have
used the name again.


William Thomas "Billy" Adams

Lived at Chuckey, TN 1932. (Margaret Estep's will).
Owned farm at Left of exit44 going south on I-81. He bought farms for
all of his sons before he died.George was willed the home place. when
George died Evelyn and Linias inherited it. They later sold it to
Billy Hughes.
There was a duplex log house, William lived in one side and George
lived
in the other side of the house.

Obituary-William Thomas Adams -74-
July 29,1937- Prominent farmer of the Jeroldstown Community, died
suddenly Wednesday night at his home after attending the funeral of
Mrs. R. T. Kelly wednesday afternoonat Baileyton. He was a member of
the primitave Baptist Churchand the MasonicLodge of Baileyton and an
honorarymember of the Jr OUAM at Jeroldstown. Funeral services will
be friday at 2pm at Oakdale Church. Rev. Loyd K night will officiate
Burial in ajoining cemetary.


1431. Mellie Adams

Name from Hugh Williams, 1998. She supposedly lived at Beech Creek and
was married to a Barnett or Barrett. She may have had a child out of
wedlock priorto her marriage.
Mellie was pregnant with child , she and child died in childbirth. She
was a sickly person was said she had been bedriden for 5 years. (from
Viola Collins, 12/2000)

Mary Carter knew Julia's family when she wasyoung.
