Following biography from Raymond Danner'sinternet site,
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Shores/9055/STEWART/WmFloyd.html
William Floyd Stewart was the fifth child of Allen Winfield and Mariah
Catherine Stewart. The Certificate of Death for William Floyd lists
his birth date as 11 December 1864 and the birthplace as Floyd Co.,
KY.
William F.,his brothers and sisters, lost their father about 1873 or
1874 and were raised by their mother until she returned to Scott Co.
VA and married widower David Baldwin in 1879. On the 23rd of June,
1880 the census of Scott Co. for theDe Kalb District enumerates
William (15), his younger brothers Henry (11) andJohn (8) with David
and Maria Baldwin and David's daughter Martha. At this time William
can read and write and is listed as a Farm Laborer, probably forhis
step-father who is a farmer.
On Monday, the 13th of March, 1882, W.F. and M. J. Flanery obtained a
marriage license from J. M. Johnson, Court Clerk for Scott county.
They are married at the house of Samuel Estepp who performedthe
marriage. W. F. Is 21 and M. J. Is 18. The license lists their parents
as Winfield and Maria Stewart, and Auburn and C. Flanery. [Mary Jane
is actually a Meade, see below.] W.F's occupation is Farmer. On
Sunday, May 28 theirfirst child Sarah Helen is born.
Will books 10 and 11 of Scott Co. give accounts of William F.
Stewart's guardianship of William M. Flanery from May 1, 1882 until
May 13, 1889. Such items as a Reader and Elementary English Grammar,
tuition, medical attendance by J.R. Carter, and books and services
rendered by H.S. Gillenwater. Why W.F. was appointed guardian or
indeed, why WilliamM. Flanery needed a guardian is still a question.
Two William Flanery's bornto Albert and Catherine are both older than
William F. and are unlikely to need care by someone younger. Further
research is needed here.
By 1900 William F. And his wife Jane have moved to Wise Co., VA where
he is a miner. The Twelfth Census for the Gladeville District (part
of), taken on June 5, enumerates William F., his wife Jane and their
children; Matthew (15), Conley W. (12), Willie E. (10), Calley M. (8),
Clarence M. (4) and Charly (1), six sons andone daughter. William F.
and Jane report that they have been married for 20years having 7
living children. All are listed as having been born in Virginia as
were their parents. Both William F. and hi

and had
only one child.

Noah H. Babb

present (John C., Mary L., George C.,Henry C.); incl Emory Stanley,

Family details from Ballard Thompson's file, 6/1998.
Kathleen Salyers said both "Dick" and Jane died at Norton, VA, a month
apart. They were brought back to Scott Co by horse and wagon for
burial at the Cowden Cem at Lick Creek.
Scott Co Marriage Records 2-54-17, son of Geo. & SarahE.
Some records show his middle name as Lafayette. Kathy Thompson Pratt
found considerable evidence that T. was his middle initial. His
nickname was Dick. "I researched his name farther and this is what
makes me believe his namewas not Lafayette, but of course I could be
wrong....
1. James Emmett's marriage record lists him as S.T.
2. He was an overseer for the poor of Dekalb Magistral District, the
records for which he was sworn in list his name as S.T.both in 1903
and in 1911. He served a total of 8 years nonconsecutive.
3. The clerk for 1903 was a different person than the clerk of 1911.
The 1903 Clerk was G.L. Daughtery and the clerk for 1911 was E.A .
Hodge Deputy Clerk
4.His Tombstone at the Green/Redmond Cemetery list his name as S.T.
Thompson.
This much information has been confirmed. It was confirmed through my
research of Samuel. I have copies of James Emmett's marriage record.
Copies of both1903 and 1911 terms in office. The Tombstone was
confirmed through an interview that I had with Maude Stewart who is
responsible for the care of the cemetery.
With the middle initial T showing up in his name in so many different
places I am no longer sure it is a transcription error. The chances
that all of these are mistakes his highly unlikely although not
impossible." (from Kathy Thompson Pratt, <depcao101@earthlink.net>,
1/2004)
