CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Bickum (B.M.) Elliott, 90,178 Rosewood Drive NE,
died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at his residence after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Scott County, Va. (Midway community) and had been a
resident of Kingsport most of his life.
Mr. Elliott was a member of Kingsport Baptist Temple Church. He
retired from Holston Defense Corp.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Reba Elliott; a
brother; and sevensisters.
Surviving are a son, Bobby D. Elliott and wife, Linda, Cleveland,
Tenn.; a grandson, Ritchie Elliott, California; a stepgranddaughter,
AvionneFrye, Cleveland, Tenn.; two sisters, Mamie Clay, Carlisle,
Tenn., and EvelynFeltner, Middletown, Ohio; and several nieces and
nephews.
Calling hours arefrom 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home
chapel with Pastor Leland Salyer and Pastor Hal Peggau officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oak Hill
Cemetery.

GATE CITY, Va. - Mrs. Vivian Benton Greear, 93, passed away into
Jesus' arms at Brookhaven Manor in Wednesday (Feb. 9, 2005) surrounded
by her loving family.
Mrs. Greear was bornin Scott County, Va. on May 13, 1911 and was the
daughter of the late William L. and Julia Elliott Brooks.
She was a graduate of Midway High School and Whitney School of
Business and attended Tennessee Wesleyan College. She taughtat three
schools in Scott County, Va. (Strongs Elementary, Owings Elementary
and Midway High School) and was employed many years as a credit
manager forKingsport retail stores. She was retired from the First
Valley Bank in WeberCity, Va.
Vivivan was a devoted member and Sunday School teacher at the former
Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and a member of Midway Memorial
United Methodist Church where she served as secretary/treasurer. She
also servedas the secretary/treasurer for the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
She was a member ofRebekah Lodge #86 of Gate City and Grey Ladies
Volunteers at Holston ValleyHospital.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first
husband, Edgar S. Benton; her second husband, Roy C. Greear; and two
brothers, Samuel and Maynard Brooks.
Surviving Mrs. Greear are her daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Ed
Shipley, Gate City, Va., daughter, Shirley Benton, Charlottesville,
Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Pat Benton, Surgoinsville;
stepson and wife, R.N. and Shelby Greear, Nickelsville, Va.;
grandchildren,Michelle Davis, Robin Cubbage, Richard and Janette
Davis, Melissa and Scott Hinchman, Kimberly and David Irwin, Jackie
and Jeremy Howard, David Benton, Phillip and Sandra Benton, Randal and
Angie Benton, Brooks and Ann Shipley, Angela and Tony Bellamy and
Eddie and Tina Shipley; 17 great-grandchildren, manystep
great-grandchildren; special niece, Judi Brooks, Washington and a
special nephew, Tommy Brooks, California.
The family will receive friends from 6to 9 p.m. today at Gate City
Funeral Home and other times at the residence ofher daughter, Joy
Shipley.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday inthe Gene Falin
Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Phyllis Hankins
officiating.
The Midway Choir and Dr. Jeff Vaughn will provide the music.
Burial will follow the service at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City,
Va.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

P.O. Box 1588, Gate City, VA 24251 or to the Midway Memorial United
Methodist Church.
The family of Vivian Benton Greear wishes to convey their most

GATE CITY, Va. - Ruby Culbertson Brooks, 86, of the Midway community,
passed away Sunday (June 24, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in the Manville community on March 12, 1915, she was the daughter
of the late William Floyd Culbertson and Margaret Lane Culbertson.
She was an elementary school teacher employed with the Scott County
School System.
Mrs. Brooks was a member ofthe Midway Memorial United Methodist
Church.
In addition to her parents, shewas preceded in death by her husband,
Sam Brooks (1992); and brother, D. Cecil Culbertson.
Surviving is her sister, Hazel Culbertson.
A memorial servicewill be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel
of Colonial Funeral Home,Weber City, Va., with the Rev. Claude Lane
officiating.
A private burial will be held.
