EAST STONE GAP, Va. - Edith Elliott Hicks, 92, went to sleep in Jesus'
arms Monday (May 19, 2003) at Wellmont-LonesomePine Hospital.
She had resided all her life in East Stone Gap and was a member of
East Stone Gap United Methodist Church.
She was the daughter of the late Jerry and Pearlie (Strong) Elliott.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Hicks; an infant
daughter, Evlyn Hicks; a brother, Lester Elliott; and two sisters,
Viola Gibson and Esther Clasby.
She was the loving mother of Randall Hicks and Charles Hicks and his
wife Sharon Hicks. She was theloving grandmother of Christine Smith
and husband Darrell, Lisa English andhusband Daniel, Bill Maness and
wife Magin, Beth Clark and Eric Hicks. She isalso survived by her
great-grandchildren, Tasha Smith, Sarah Lane, Ryan andRaechel Clark,
Haley, Carly and Emily Maness.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Holding Funeral
Home in Big Stone Gap, Va.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at East Stone Gap United
Methodist Church with the Rev. David Knight, the Rev. Rick Spell and
the Rev. Bill Hughes officiating.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, East Stone Gap, Va.
Pallbearers will beBill Maness, Eric Hicks, Darrell Smith, Daniel
English, Allan Jones and GaryBush.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Dye, Dale Taylor, Rick DeBolt,
Tollie Newberry and Paul Snodgrass.

12392. Mary Eva Strong

GEORGETOWN, S.C. - Mary Eva Strong Casteel, formerly of Kingsport and
Batesville, Ark., died Monday (July 14, 2003) at Georgetown Memorial
Hospital following a brief illness.
Mary was born in Rogersville and graduated from SullivanHigh School
class of 63. She worked for Tennessee Eastman Company and Arkansas
Eastman.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Nathan Casteel (1990); and
her parents, Floyd and Ora Strong.
Survivors include one sister, DewannaBrewer, Kingsport; one brother,
Lowell Strong, Bangkok, Thailand; and severalnieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral
Homes, Kingsport Chapel.
Graveside services will be conducted at 12 noon Friday at East Lawn
Memorial Park with Elder Paul Strong officiating.
Memorials may be given to Glen Alpine United Methodist Church building
fund,3200 Glen Alpine Road, Kingsport, Tenn. 37660.
