GATE CITY, Va. - Charles Sumner Pendleton, Jr., 84, passed away on
Thursday (Feb. 6, 2003)at Indian Path Medical Center.
Mr. Pendleton was born in Scott County, Va. onApril 17, 1918 and was
a son of the late Rev. Charles Sumner Pendleton, Sr.and Pearl Taylor
Pendleton.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force. After service in the AAF,
he taught vocational agriculture for veterans. He retired from the
Soil Conservation Service of the USDA after more than 30 years of
service, most of them in Lebanon, Va.
He was a member of the First BaptistChurch of Gate City, Va.
In addition to his parents, twin daughters, Susan and Nataleen
Pendleton; sisters, Floy Stallard and Lois Montgomery; and brothers,
Glen, Kyle, Ryland and Bob Pendleton preceded him in death.

Surviving by his wife, Marion Boatright Pendleton, Kingsport; three
sons and daughter-in-law, Pete and Debbie Pendleton and Chuck

Kingsport; grandchildren, Samantha Jo Pendleton, Gate City, Va. and
Westley Miles Pendleton, Gate City, Va.; sister, Hemple Meredith,
Alcoa, Tenn.; and brother andsister-in-law, Joe and Joanne Pendleton,
Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 12 to 2 p.m. today at Gate City FuneralHome
and other times at the residence of Pete Pendleton.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today the Gene Falin Memorial
Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Lester Ferguson and Dr. Roc
Collins officiating.
First Baptist Church of Gate City Men's Ensemble will provide music.
Burial will follow the services at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City,
Va.
Eddie Brooks, David Pendleton, Scott Gillenwater, Tony Gardner, Denny
Haynes, Sam Bellamy and Buck Jennings will serve as pallbearers.
Clive Strong, Frank Robinette, J.B. Swiger, J.C. Pendleton, Virgil

OAK RIDGE - Joseph Douglas Pendleton, 82, died on Dec. 30, 2004 at
National Health Care in Oak Ridge.
He was born Dec. 21, 1922 in Gate City, Va., toCharles Sumner and
Pearl Taylor Pendleton. During World War II, he served with the 8th
Air Force of the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theater and was
honorably discharged.
He retired from Union Carbide with 31 years of service as an
analytical chemist.
Survivors include two daughters, Jerry Pendleton, and Carolyn
Pendleton King and her husband Ken; one son, Doug Pendleton and his
wife Pam, and their three children, Aaron, Leah, and Adam Pendleton;
and one sister, Hemple Pendleton Meredith.
Services will be private graveside.

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - Jo Ann Childress Pendleton, 74, died Saturday (Nov.
22, 2003) at St. Mary's Residential Hospice in Knoxville.
She was born Nov. 12, 1929in Dungannon, Va., to the late John T. and
Frankie Childress. She retired from the Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks
Department with over 20 years of service and was affectionately known
as "Granny" to generations of Oak Ridge lifeguards and swimmers.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Joe Pendleton, Oak Ridge;
daughters, Jerry Pendleton, and Carolyn Pendleton King and husband
Ken; one son, Doug Pendleton and wife Pam; three grandchildren, Aaron,
Leahand Adam Pendleton; two sisters, Janice and Joyce Childress; one
brother, John Childress; two nephews, Neil and Bryan Childress.
Services will be private.
Interment will be in Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
