KINGSPORT - Phyllis Nickels Altizer, 65, who was God's servant, has
gone home to bewith her Lord on Monday (Jan. 5, 2004).
She truly was a servant of God who used her heart and hands to care
for others her entire life. Her family and friends feel blessed to
have known this wonderful loving lady.
Born in Kingsport, she spent almost 20 years as a military wife and
mother. After retirement,she and her husband returned to Kingsport in
1973, where she lived the remainder of her life. Mrs. Altizer was a
member of Fort Robinson Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Gus Nickels Sr. and
Polly Taylor Nickels. Also preceding her in death were one sister,
Reba Nickels; andfour brothers, Frank Nickels Sr., William "Bill''
Nickels, Henry Gus NickelsJr. and Joe Nickels.
Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Donald Altizer, ofthe home;
two daughters, Teresa Altizer, of the home, and Carol and husbandBob
Cowden, Fall Branch; two sons, Benjamin and wife Ann Altizer,
Kingsport, and Terry and wife Vivian Altizer, Kingsport; eight
grandchildren, Alexander Keesee and fiancée, Allison Lott, Kingsport,
Shayne Cowden, Austin Cowden,Fall Branch, Darby Altizer, Jessica and
husband Joey Trent, Zachary Altizer,Kevin Altizer, Lindsey Altizer,
all of Kingsport; one great-grandchild due inJune; several nieces and
nephews; special friends, Larry and Ruby Hurley, Kingsport, and Pat
Scott, Gray.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday atCarter-Trent Funeral
Home, downtown Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home
chapel with the Rev. Jeff Alford officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at VA National
Cemetery, Mountain Home, with the Rev. Frank Proffitt officiating.
Pallbearerswill be family and friends.


6321. Joe Pat Nickels

KINGSPORT - Joe Pat Nickels, 60, went to be with Jesus while at home
Monday night (Oct. 30, 2000) after many years of battling cancer and
renal failure.
He wasa loving husband, devoted father and friend to all who knew
him.
Mr. Nickels began his own business, Nickels Floor Covering, at age 18.
He was a hard worker both at work and home. He strove to provide a
loving home with Christianvalues which he instilled in his children.
He was a 24-year member of the U.S. Army Reserves.
Mr. Nickels was preceded in death by his wife, Shelby KetronNickels
(April 12, 2000); parents, Henry Gus Nickels Sr. and Polly Taylor
Nickels; sister, Reba Nickels; and two brothers, Frank Nickels and
Henry Gus Nickels Jr.
Surviving are two daughters and son-in-law, Rebecca Nickels and
Patricia and Charles York and their three girls, all of Kingsport; one
sister,Phyllis Altizer, Kingsport; one brother, Bill Nickels,
Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral
Home, downtown.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday inthe funeral home
chapel with Pastor Jeffrey Alford officiating.
Burial willbe in Oak Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites
conducted by Hammond Post No. 3 of the American Legion.


Shelby Jean Ketron

She lived at Kingsport, TN, and died after a long battle with cancer.
Preceded in death by mother. Surv by husband, 2 dau, father, 1 bro,
several nieces and neph. (from her obituary)

Margaret Thompson Mitchell, 71, 1421 Conway Drive, Kingsport, died
Tuesday (Nov.10, 1998) at her residence after a lengthy illness.She
was a lifelong resident of Kingsport and was formerly employed as a
licensed practical nurse at Holston Valley Medical Center.Mrs.
Mitchell was a member of the First Assemblyof God.She was preceded in
death by her parents, Leonard and Hannah Thompson;a brother, Fred
Thompson; and a grandson, Michael Benjamin Sykes.Surviving are her
husband, Stanley Mitchell, Kingsport; a daughter, Sandy Sykes,
Kingsport; four grandchildren, Baxter Sykes, Bryce Sykes, Sarah Sykes
and SuzanneSykes.Calling hours are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at
First Assembly of God, anytime at the home, and anytime Thursday at
Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home.Services will be conducted at 1 p.m.
Friday at First Assembly of God with Pastor Carl Kelleher and the Rev.
David Huber officiating.Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.Family and
friends will serve as pallbearers.Memorial contributions may be made

Have not been able to find a SSDI. He may have died in early 1960s?
Unconfirmed story - He owned the Top Hat Restaurant there on Center
Street. Mr. Taylor was killed over in Gate City, Va. Shot by someone I
think the story goes.


Irene Mae Lee

Mrs. Irene Lee Brummitt, 78, Kingsport, went peacefully to be with the
Lord Friday (Dec. 18, 1998) at Indian Path Medical Center after
declining health.Mrs. Brummitt was a native of Sullivan County. She
was a buyer for Larkins Clothing and supervisor for the Darling
Stores.She was the daughter of the late H.L. and Zella Wagner Lee.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Lee Roy
Taylor, in 1998.Surviving are her very loving and devotedhusband of
48 years, Jasper (Jack) Brummitt, of the home; a sister, KatherineLee
Goebel, Kingsport; three loving grandchildren, Mrs. Don (Angelia)
Yates, Marrietta, Ga., Mrs. Tim (Tracie) Candler and Michael Taylor,
both of Kingsport; two loving great-grandchildren, Michelle Yates and
Jordan Candler.Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at East Lawn
Funeral Home.Services willbe conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in the
funeral home chapel with the Rev. Michael Travis, the Rev. Thomas
Suiter and a eulogy given by the Rev. Grady Lee.Music will be under
the direction of Mrs. Mary Barker.Graveside services will be conducted
at 1 p.m. Tuesday at East Lawn Memorial Park.Honorary pallbearerswill
