KINGSPORT - Hattie Lois Moore, 71, left this life peacefully on Friday
(June14, 2002) to her eternal resting place with our Heavenly Father
where she will forever be free from the pain and suffering she had
endured for the past four years from the complications of diabetes.
She was owner and operator of Chuck's Drive In for 25 years, retiring
in 1997.
She was a wonderful, loving mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister and
friend to all. She will be sadly missedby all who knew her.
Ms. Moore was preceded in death by her first husband, Emmett McGathey;
her parents, Kainey and Monnie Stapleton; an infant sister; brothers,
Kenneth, Kainey Jr.; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Surviving are her children: daughters, Ada Stapleton, Patsy (Pete)
Bracken, Cathy Carter Devault and Betty Henry; sons, Steve and wife
Brenda McGathey, Bobbyand wife Neoshia McGathey, all of Kingsport,
and Roger McGathey and specialfriend Mark Spear of Cincinnati, Ohio;
sister, Mary Fraysier and husband Willie (Bill), Gate City, Va.;
grandchildren, Rodney, Mark and Clark Stapleton, Robin Hulse, Scotty
Carter, Rebecca McGathey, Brian Henry, Jenny Herron, Steven McGathey,
Carl McGathey and Anthony Chaffer, all of Kingsport, and Michaeland
Christy McGathey of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; and 19 great-grandchildren;
several nieces, nephews, cousins and Uncle Dan Richards; also all of
the many special friends from Chuck's, whom she considered her second
family.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Oak Hill Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel
with the Rev. Robert "Monk" Cole officiating.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Private graveside servicewill be held on Monday.
KINGSPORT - Johnny L. Thacker, 65, died unexpectedly Friday evening
(July 5,2002) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was born in Hawkins Countybut had spent the majority of his life
in Kingsport. He had served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. He
retired from Holliston Mills in 1998 with over22 years of service and
was presently employed at Tom Brooks Exxon in Kingsport.
He was of the Baptist faith where he attended Orebank Freewill Baptist
Church.
He was a beloved papaw who will be missed greatly.
He was preceded indeath by his parents, Bazle and Ella Gross Thacker.
Surviving are his wife, Grace Thacker of the home; daughter, Jennifer
Horne and her husband Michael ofKingsport; son, Jeffrey L. Thacker
and his wife Penny of Venice, Fla.; grandchildren, Joshua Lynn
Thacker, Nicole Hannah Thacker and Kevin Todd Horne; mother and
father-in-law, R.V. and Ethel Thacker of Church Hill; sister, Rachel
(Sue) Fuller and her husband William D. Jr. of Kingsport; brothers,
QuintonThacker and his wife Bessie of Yuma, Va., Frank Thacker and
his wife Opal ofChurch Hill, and Kyle Thacker and his wife Karen of
Yuma, Va.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of special friends.
Calling hours will be from 4 to7 p.m. Monday at the Carter-Trent
Funeral Home, Kingsport. Friends may also call anytime at the
residence of his daughter, Jennifer Horne, 160 Kingsley Avenue,
Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeralhome chapel
with the Rev. L.D. Lane bringing the message, and the Rev. Jack
Sturgill and the Rev. Marvin Winkle officiating.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion
Hammond Post No. 3 at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Morning Star Church
Cemetery, Church Hill.
Pallbearers will be Ron Newland, Denver Thacker, James E. Thacker,
Wade Childress, Kenneth Horne and Herbert L. Thacker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Warren Jones, Tom Brooks, Robert
Adams, Bob Lovegrove and Bill Winkle.
