My husband and I moved to Portland, ORon 20 April and saw an obit in
"The Oregonian" for the widow of Donald Kimbler. I finally got hold
of Don's sisters, who didn't know much, but with the little they had I
found the line. Interestingly enough Colleen Kimbler Dethridge said
that her grandmother, Nancy Combs Kimbler, had raised an orphan named
John Lane. Colleen thought he was related, but she had no idea how.
JohnS.M. Kimbler and Lucinda J. Buckner had a son James who was
actually James Isaac Kimbler. B 1866/7 in Fort Blackmore, Scott Co,
VA md Nancy Combs about 1894 in Chattanooga, Hamilton Co, TN. They
migrated to OK and had a large family, all, supposedly, b OK. Later
they went to TX. Their children included (not necessarily in order):
John Daniel Kimbler b 3 Dec 1902 md Opal Sanders inNM d Oct 1982 (a
long time RR worker) Portland, OR. John & Opal came to SanFrancisco
after their children were b in Grants, NM, in about 1942 to work in
the ship yards. They lived in SF, Richmond and then Portland, OR.
Their children were 9, with only 4 who lived - Donald (b 6 May 1934 md
Deloris Norris d 28 May 1988 Portland, OR), Colleen, Shirley Mae, and

Martha b 1914 OK d 1982 Fresno, CA. Has a living relative in NM named

Hi there....You probably don't remember me but a few years ago you
were trying to help me with my Laynes. Atthe time my grandfather's
name was thought to be Jackson Layne/Lane. Now I have found him to be
called Elijah J.(probably Jackson) in the 1910 Kentucky Mircode at
Ancestry.Com. Also instead of Minnie being his mother's name; it's
possible that her name was Jemimah Brown. Because in the 1880 Elliott
Co. Census I found Jemimah Brown with Elijah J. age 7; which would
have been the age of my grandfather in 1880. So would happen to know
anything about an ElijahJ. Lane/Layne whose father was Sam Layne born

Mary Lane make him a good candidate as the father of both children.
One reference gives birth date as 3/14/1843. In 1870 census, he was 9
yrs old.
