7031. Betty Jean Hammonds

Lived at Kingsport in 1998, 2000.
KINGSPORT - Betty Jean Hammonds Castle, 55,of Clouds Ford Road, went
home to be with the Lord Thursday (May 30, 2002) atHolston Valley
Medical Center.
She was a member of the Weber City Church ofGod and was a faithful
supporter of her church.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Jo "Poochie'' Castle;
a daughter, Christa Castle; and her parents, William Hammonds and
Maggie Way Hammonds.
Surviving are her son, Phillip Castle and his wife,Laurie of Gray;
grandchildren, Kaley Castle, Brittany Baker, Alex Rogers andBrittany
McConnell; sisters, Portia Akers and Margaret Smith, both of Kingsport
and Donna Cummings of Huntsville, Ala.; and a brother, Raymond
Hammondsof Kingsport.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Carter-Trent FuneralHome,
downtown Kingsport and also anytme at the family's residence at 1814
Clouds Ford Road, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home
chapel with Pastor Raymond Hammonds and the Rev. Ralph Hammonds
officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the Weber City Church of God, 120 Yuma Road,
Weber City, Va. 24290.
Pallbearers will be nephews and brothers-in-law.

Samuel Edward Vermillion

Lived at Hiltons in 1997.
HILTONS, Va. - Samuel Edward Vermillion, 57, of Route 1, departed this
life Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was born in Scott County, Va., on September 20, 1944. He was an
electrician and member of I.B.E.W. No. 934.
He was a veteran of the Marine reserves.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel V. Vermillion.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Vermillion, of the home; mother,
Mallie Vermillion, Hiltons; two sons and daughter-in-law, Dennis
Vermillion, and Bobby and RebeccaVermillion, all of Hiltons; two
granddaughters, Kayla and Ashley; sisters andbrothers-in-law, Mary
and Roy Lee Depew, Mount Carmel, Elaine and Kelley Culbertson, Gate
City; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Junior and Mary Vermillion,
Bill and Nadine Vermillion , all of Hiltons, Walter and Pauline
Vermillion, Rogersville; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home,
Weber City, Va., or anytime at his residence.
At Mr. Vermillion's request, he was cremated.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the family.

Marie Carter

Lived at Kingsport, TN in 1995.
KINGSPORT - Marie Carter, 76, 2217 Hinkle Road, passed away Saturday
(Dec. 13, 2003) at 4:05 p.m. at Wellmont Wilcox Hall with her loving
family present. She fought a 14-year courageous battle with cancer.
Marie was born in Fairview, Va., and was a daughter of the late
William (Will) and Beunah (Barnette) Carter.
She retired from Tennessee Eastman Company.
Marie is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Ken
Pleasant of Kingsport; her brother and sister-in-law; William and
Mildred Carter of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
At the request of Marie, a private graveside service was held Tuesday
at 2 p.m., at the East Lawn MemorialPark with the Rev. Andrew Grogg
officiating.
Condolences may be sent to thefamily at their home address.
East Lawn Funeral Home served the Carter family.
