Mills where he had worked for 31 yrs. He served in the US Army. 4

DUFFIELD, Va. - Paul Jackson Matney, 67, Route 1, entered into rest
Thursday (Jan. 11, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Paul was born in Scott County, Va. on June 27, 1933,son of the late
David and Amy Fritz Matney. He played guitar in area churches with
many area gospel groups including his own, Paul Matney and Friends
Band.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lula
Vaughn and an infant brother, James Matney.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy HoodMatney, Duffield, Va.; one daughter
and son-in-law, Patricia and Guy Brydge,Chase, Md.; one son and
daughter-in-law, Jackie and Patty Matney, Baltimore,Md.; two
granddaughters, Paula Brydge and Pam Matney; three grandsons, Kevin
Brydge, Keith Brydge and Brian Matney; step sons, Dwayne Gilliam,
Chuckey,Richard Gilliam and Jonathan Gilliam, both of Kingsport; two
step granddaughters, Erica Gilliam and Katie Gilliam; two step
grandsons, Joseph and ZacharyGilliam; five sisters, Myrtle Bowen,
Kingsport, Dora Lane, Moroca, Ill., Frankie Rhoton, Clinchport, Va.,
Rosa Moore, Duffield, Va., and Mary Vega, Baltimore, Md.; one brother,
David Albert Matney, Dryden, Va.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home and
other times at the residence.
Mr. Matney will be taken to Red Hill Memorial Church, where he will
liein state one hour prior to the funeral service which will be
conducted at 2p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Layton Bentley and the Rev.
Bill Lane officiating.
Music will be provided by Junior Smith and the Family Tradition and
soloistNathan Hood.
Burial will follow the services at the Burchett Cemetery.
MickeySummey, Matthew Cruby, Larry Cruby, Mike Pease, Nathan Hood,
Kenneth Bowen,Jason Rhoton and Jerry Broadwater will serve as
pallbearers.
Grandsons willserve as honorary pallbearers.
