KINGSPORT - Shirley Ann Dockery, 63, died Monday (Feb. 17, 2003) at
Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born in Sullivan County and had retired from the Piccadilly
Cafeteria after 27 years of employment. Mrs. Dockery attended Christ
Fellowship Church and was loved by all her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Mae Bishop.
Surviving are her father, Lawson Bishop of Kingsport; her husband,
Claude Mack Dockery, of the home; one daughter, DonnaDockery, of the
home; one son, Stephen Dockery of Kingsport; two sisters, Dorothy
Snyder of Gray and Stella Downs of Boones Creek; several nieces and
nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home
chapel withthe Rev. Larry Knowles, the Rev. Kenny Hammonds and
Preacher John Boggs officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Oak Hill
Memorial Park.

APPALACHIA, Va. - Evelyn Lovell "Pete" Peterson, 69of Elyria, Ohio,
died Wednesday (Dec. 8, 2004) at Northridge Health Center,North
Ridgeville, Ohio.
She was born Feb. 14, 1935 in Wise County, Va. She graduated from
Appalachia High School, Appalachia, Va., in 1943 and from Clinch
Valley Clinic, Richlands, Va., in 1954 as a licensed practical nurse.
Shemoved to Elyria and was employed at EMH Regional Medical Center as
a licensed practical nurse for 34 years, retiring in 1998.
She attended Midway BaptistChurch in Elyria.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer C. Petersonin 1984;
mother, Mary Worley, and step-father, Samuel Worley; and five
brothers.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond L. Beach, Strongsville, Ohio, and
James B. "Bo" Beach, Elyria, Ohio; two grandsons; brother, Ray Worley
Jr., Appalachia, Va.
Services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 11, 2004) at the
Midway Baptist Church, Elyria, Ohio, with the Rev. Charles Keesee
officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Powell
Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Shirley R. Wells, 61, of the Oreton community,
went to be with the Lord Wednesday (Feb. 6, 2002) at Wellmont Lonesome
Pine Hospital after an extended illness.
She was a long-time member of Robinettes Chapel Church and was a past
employee of Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home in Duffield, Va.
She was preceded in death by her father, Woodrow Lovell of Appalachia,
Va.
Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Buck Wells of Big StoneGap,
Va.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Regina and Kevin Pennington,
Minot, N.D., Kitty and Marvin Owens of Davie, Fla., Sandy Wells, Weber
City, Va.,and Dawn Wells, of the home; mother, Ruby Lovell of
Appalachia, Va.; six grandchildren, Gary and Aimee Mawk, Danielle and
McKinley Lewis, Joey Bear, TomiOwens, K.C. Owens and Devin Porter;
two great-grandchildren, Jovonna Mawk and Dakota Lewis; six sisters,
Marie Miller, Dorothy Logan, Barbara Craiger, Susie Payne, all of
Appalachia, Va., June Reeves of Wise, Va., and Angela Lovell of Big
Stone Gap, Va.; two brothers, Woodrow Lovell of Big Stone Gap, Va.,
and Robin Lovell of Norton, Va.; one sister of the heart, Linda Lovell
of Big Stone Gap, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to8 p.m. today at Holding Funeral Home, Big
Stone Gap, Va.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Robinette Chapel
Church in the Wildcat community with Pastor Don Childress and the Rev.
Bud Kilbourne officiating.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
Music will be provided by the Robinettes Chapel Quartet.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Burial will be in the Flores cemetery in the Wildcat community.

CHURCH HILL - Oscar EdwardRhoton, 57, of Church Hill, passed away
Saturday (Sept. 27, 2003) at HolstonValley Medical Center.
Mr. Rhoton was born in Scott County, Va., and had resided in Church
Hill. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a dozer operator for Vic
Davis.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Andy and Martha Elizabeth
(Lizzie) Bishop Rhoton; sisters, Olene Darnell, Nancy Lane, and Brenda
Rhoton.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda Ketron Rhoton, of the home; sister,
Linda Rhoton, Gate City, Va.; brothers and sisters-In-law, Bill and
Lucille Bishop and Jimmy Rhoton, both of Gate City, Va.; several
nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home
in Weber City, Va., and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel at 8 p.m. today
with the Rev.Alvin Skelton officiating.
Music will be provided by Mabe Quartet.
Gravesideservices will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Valley View Baptist
Church Cemetery in Church Hill. Family will meet at the funeral home
at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.

FT. BLACKMORE, Va. - Georgia Mae Akers Driver, 64, entered into rest
on Sunday (June 3, 2001) at her residence.
Born in Scott County, Va. on Sept. 19, 1936, she was the daughter of
the late Emmitt and Nancy Owens Akers.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters,
Bonnie Lucille Beard and Helen Laura Kinkead; two brothers, James
Carlos Akers and Emmitt H."Junior'' Akers Jr.
Surviving are two daughters, Melody Lynn Akers, Burnside,Ky., and
Teresa Ann Rhoton Perez, Arcadia, Fla.; one son, Paul Edward Petrusak,
Manchester, Ky.; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one
sister, Kathleen Osborne, Dungannon, Va.; one brother, Jimmy McArthur
Akers, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends today at the home of Georgia Driver,
Route 1, Box 203, Ft. Blackmore, Va.
Serviceswill be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cassell's Chapel,
Ft. Blackmore, Va.with the Rev. James Mann and the Rev. Danny Darnell
officiating.
Music willbe provided by Shelby Greear and Lillian Raymond.
Burial will be at the Greear Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, Va.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

GATE CITY, Va. - MamieRuth Rhoton Porter, 79, entered into rest with
the Lord Sunday (May 25, 2003) at Sunbridge Hillside Nursing Home in
Kingsport.
Born on July 7, 1923 in Lee County, Va., she was the daughter of the
late Worley J. and Elizabeth Coomer Rhoton. She was a devoted wife,
mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Mack Garvie Porter; brothers, Andy, Johnny, Logan, Bill and Oscar
Rhoton; and her sisters, Mary, Rubyand Butis Rhoton.
Surviving are her son, Garvie Porter and his wife Linda ofGate City;
granddaughter, Melinda Casteel and her husband Turman of Gate City;
sisters, Nancy Lane and Jessie Patterson and husband Harold, all of
Kingsport; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Calling hours will be from 6to 8 p.m. Thursday at Scott County
Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., and any time at Garvie's and Melinda's
homes in Gate City.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home
chapel with the Rev. Bill Porter officiating.
Music will be provided by The Smith Singers.
Committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Holston View
Cemetery, Weber City, Va. Family andfriends will meet at the funeral
home at 10 a.m. and process to the cemetery.

GATE CITY, Va. - Mack Garvey Porter, 84, Route 4, departed this life
Thursdayafternoon (Dec. 21, 2000) at his residence.
A native of Russell County, Va.,he was retired farmer and of the
Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lilburn Henry Porter and Mary
Melinda Smith Porter; brothers,William Porter, John Porter, Bordie
Porter and Charlie Porter; and sisters, Sarah Kerney, Dorothy Dixon
and Nannie Dixon.
Surviving are his wife, Mamie Ruth Rhoton Porter, Gate City, Va.; son
and daughter-in-law, Garvie and LindaPorter, Gate City, Va.;
granddaughter and husband, Melinda and Truman Casteel, Gate City, Va.;
and sisters, Matt McNutt, Gate City, Va., and Kate Carr, Kingsport;
and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m.today at Scott County Funeral Home,
Weber City, Va., and anytime at the residence of the son or the
granddaughter.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel
with the Rev. Claude Lane officiating.

Cemetery, Weber City, Va. Family and friends are asked to meet at 10
