8589. William Jeff "Bill" Rhoton

Lived at Asheville, NC 1993, 99.
KINGSPORT - William "Bill" Jeff Rhoton, 75, entered into rest Friday
(March 21, 2003) at Erwin Healthcare in Erwin, Tenn.
Mr. Rhoton was born in Lee County, Va. on Jan. 5, 1928, son of the
late Worley J. and Elizabeth Coomer Rhoton. He was retired from
Looney's Chevrolet with 25 years of service.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and United States Navy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife,Lois
Summey Rhoton; one sister and two brothers.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra K. and Michael
Greene and Susie and Robert Hartman, all of Kingsport, Tenn.; sons and
daughter-in-law, Gary Rhoton, S.C., Billy and Brenda Rhoton, N.C. and
Timmy Rhoton, Kingsport, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Nancy Lane,
Kingsport, Tenn., Jessie and Harold Patterson, Kingsport, Tenn., and
Mamie Porter,Hilton, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friendsfrom 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Gate
City Funeral Home and other times at theresidence of his daughter and
son-in-law, Sandra and Michael Greene.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday in the Gene Falin Memorial
Chapel of thefuneral home with the Rev. Lawrence Wolfe, the Rev. Gale
Hartley officiating. The music will provided Pat Wolfe.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the
V.A. Mountain Home Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tenn., by the American
Legion Hammond Post #3 and #265. The family will be meeting at
Mountain Home for the graveside service.
Brothers-in-law will serve aspallbearers.

BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Mary Lee Rogers, 76, wentto be with the Lord
Wednesday (April 18, 2001) at her home.
Born March 5, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Ervin and Jane
Rhoton Childress. She was a member of Robinetteus Chapel Central
Baptist Church.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Ernest K. Rogers; two brothers,Paul Childress and Anderson uHacku
Childress.
Surviving are three sons anddaughters-in-law, Kenneth and Mae Rogers,
Johnny Rogers and Hank and Kathy Rogers, all of Big Stone Gap, Va.;
four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Myrtle
Gilliam, Gate City, Va., and Wilhite Shupe, Duffield, Va.; two
brothers, William B. Childress and June Childress, both of Kingsport
and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today atHolding Funeral Home, Big
Stone Gap, Va.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Robinette Chapel
Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Childress officiating.
Burial will follow in the Shupe Cemetery at Jasper, Va.
Friends will serve as pallbearers.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Kathleen Gilmer Craft, 82, departed this life
early Monday (Aug. 6, 2001) at Ponce de Leon Care Center in St.
Augustine, Fla.
She was a native of East Stone Gap, Va., and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Lee Daugherty and
Nannie Bledsoe Daugherty; sister, Bobbie Ruth Sparks; brother, Junior
Daugherty; special aunt and uncle thatraised her from childhood, Kate
and Ed McKinney.
Surviving are her son, Emmette Craft, Shaker Heights, Ohio; two
grandchildren, England Craft and BriceCraft, both of Springfield,
Mo.; cousins, Nancy Munsey, Gate City, Va., Rebecca Correll,
Middletown, Ohio and Edward McKinney, Covington, Ky.; and several
nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at ScottCounty Funeral
Home, Weber City, Va.
Graveside services will be conducted at11:30 a.m. Saturday at Oak
Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Elbert Munsey officiating. Poetry will be
read by Nancy Munsey.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.

She was born in Lee County, Va. Sept. 11, 1931 to the late James
BascomCoomer and Dona Hood Coomer.
Including her parents, she was preceded in deathby her husband, Hoke
McConnell; two sisters, JoAnn Sons and Helen Lucky; twobrothers, Lee
Coomer and John Coomer.
Surviving are her three sons and daughters-in-law, Eric McConnell,
Gate City, Va., Bobby and Kristen McConnell, Gate City, Va., and
Leslie and Charlene Coomer, Kingsport; one sister, Peggy Collins, Gate
City, Va.; brother, Eddie Coomer, N.J.; step daughter, Fern Groen,
Calif.; step sons, Darnell McConnell, Frank McConnell, Paul McConnell,
Ronald McConnell; three grandchildren, Chaz Coomer, Erin Slone, Vaughn
McConnell, Nathaniel McConnell, Holly McConnell; one great-grandson,
Jackson Coomer; several nieces and nephews.

GATE CITY, Va. - Mrs. JoAnn Coomer Sons, 59, entered into eternal rest
on Saturday (June 30, 2001) at her residence.
Mrs. Sons was born in Scott County, Va., on January 24, 1942, daughter
of the late James Bascom and Dona Mae Hood Coomer. She retired from
Norris Industries with 23 years of service, and was of the Christian
faith.
In addition to her parents, a sister, Helen Lucky, and brothers, John
and Lee Coomer, preceded her in death.
Surviving Mrs. Sonsare her husband, Bill Sons Sr., Gate City; sons
and daughters-in-law, Bill and Diane Sons Jr., Bluff City, Ricky and
Rhonda Sons, Gate City, Mike and LoriSons, Blountville, and Eddie and
Vicky Sons, Kingsport; grandchildren, Christopher Lee Sons, Stephen
Michael Sons, Christina Colleen Sons and Taylor Leann Sons; stepson,
Gary Falin, Kingsport; sisters, Mildred McConnell and PeggyCollins,
both of Gate City; brother, Eddie Coomer, Trenton, N.J.; several

Mr. Sons was born in Scott County, Va., on Oct. 20, 1922, son of the
lateEly and Rachel Sloan Sons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife,
Joann Sons; and brothers, Howard, Charlie and Woodrow Sons; and
sister, Georgia Peterson.
Surviving are his sons, Bill Sons Jr. and wife,Lynette Diane, Bluff
City, Eddie Sons and wife, Vickie, Kingsport, Rick Sonsand wife,
Rhonda K., Gate City, Mike Sons and wife, Lori, Blountville, and Gary

DANDRIDGE - Charlie K. Shelton, 61, formerly of Kingsport, died Sunday
(Jan.7, 2001) at his home.
He was a 31-year employee of General Shale of Knoxvilleand was a
veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his father,Charlie E. Shelton; wife, Lois
Dowell Shelton (1981); and sons, Mark Anthonyand Billy Shelton.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Conard Shelton; mother, Mellie
Ratliff Shelton; son, Terry Shelton and wife, Peggy; daughters, Lisa
Chambers and husband Sam and Paige King; stepson, Gordon Hall and
wife, Angie;grandchildren, Kristy, Andrea and Tyler;
step-grandchildren, Amy and Brandon; brothers, Bobby Shelton, Darrell
Shelton, Kenneth Shelton and Michael Shelton; and sisters, Erma Lee
Wright and Mary Ruth Shultz.

Dandridge.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the Farrar Dandridge
Chapel with the Rev. Woody Tackett officiating.
Interment graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at
Oak Hill Cemetery in Kingsport.
