Star. It was about his craft of making wooden sleds of various sizes
modeled after old-style sleds. Prior to retirement, he worked for the
railroads, as a coal miner, and as a building contractor.
DUFFIELD, Va. - Nath B. Lane, 92, of Route 1,went to be with the Lord
on Sunday (Oct. 14, 2001) at Holston Valley MedicalCenter after a
period of declining health.
He had retired from the SouthernRailroad. He had worked as a coal
miner and was a farmer. He was widely knownfor his sled-making. Mr.
Lane was a born- again Christian.
He was a devotedand loving husband, father and grandfather. He was
dearly loved by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Lane and Cosby Estep
Lane; his first wife, Polly Byrd Lane; a brother, Isaac Lane; two
sisters,Pearlie Herron and Myrtle Powers.
Surviving are his wife, Mae Lane, of the home; daughters, Dorothy
Cunningham, Kingsport, Shirley Thacker, Kermit, Va., Faye Duncan,
Clinchport, Va.; sons, Jerry Lane, Vacaville, Calif., Randall Lane,
Detroit, Mich.; sister, Maggie Lou Lawson, Gate, City, Va.;
stepdaughters, Sue Taylor and Rosa Whitten, both of Kingsport, Shirley
Whiten, Gate City,Va.; stepsons, Earl Clendenin, Johnson City, Jeff
Clendenin, Clinchport, Va.,David Davidson, Gate City, Va.; 14
grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren;12 stepgrandchildren and 10
stepgreat-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home,
Weber City, Va., and also at the residence.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel
with the Rev. Eckel Herron officiating.
Music will be provided by the Bishop Family.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m.Thursday at Holston View
Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Sam Cunningham, Charles Cunningham,
Eddie Duncan, David Duncan, Michael Thacker, Daniel Thacker, Robert
Thacker, David Davidson and Darell Lane.
The family will meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. to go in
procession to the cemetery.
Inlieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's
choice.
