life Saturday (June 2, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was anative of Scott County, Va., and was a homemaker. She was a
member of VictoryFree Will Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kelly Hammond and Lovely
Davidson Hammond; sister, Kathleen Rhoton; and brothers, JohnHammond,
Charles and Elmer Hammond.
Survivors include her husband, H. KyleHackney, Gate City; sisters,
Jean Rhoton, Ft. Blackmore, Va., Minnie Belle Hensley, Gate City, and
Marjorie Lane, Ft. Blackmore, Va.; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Scott County
Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel
with Evangelist Pat Hammond and the Rev. Eritt Darnell officiating.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Holston View Cemetery, Weber
City, Va.
Family and friends will meet at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home
to go to the cemetery.
Friends will serve as pallbearers.

GATE CITY, Va. - H. Kyle Hackney, 82, of West Jackson Street, departed
this life late Monday evening (Dec. 9, 2002) at his residence.
A native of Scott County, he graduated from Shoemaker High School. He
was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, where he was awarded the Silver
Star.He retired from the Glass Plant and was of the Baptist faith.
He was precededin death by his wife, Betty Lou Hammonds Hackney;
parents, Elmer Estel and Effie Adel Starnes Hackney; brothers, Clyde
Hackney, Paul Edward Hackney and Elmer Estel Hackney; sisters, Mable
Jennings and Opal Hackney.
Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Frances and husband,
Vanis Bowen of Gate City; brother, William Ray Hackney of Gate City;
several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. todayat the Scott County Funeral
Home, Weber City, Va.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel
with the Rev. Pat Hammonds and the Rev. J.W. Bowen officiating.
Music will be provided by Sallys Chapel Quartet.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Holston View Cemetery with
militarygraveside service conducted by American Legion Post No.

27, 2004) at Indian Path Hospital.
She was born in Scott County, Va., Feb. 9, 1920 to the late, John
Dykes and Ella Mae Calhoun Dykes.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Vernon Bray; son, Darvin Edward Bray; two brothers, J.D. and Carlos
Dykes.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Hammond, Gate City, Va.; son,
Dennis Bray, Gate City, Va.; sister, Edith Brooks, Morrison City,
Tenn.; grandchildren, Tim and wife Barbara Bray, Gate City, Va., Roger
and wife, Marsha Hammond, Gray, Tenn.;greatgrandson, John Bray, Gate
City, Va.; daughter-in-law, Annabel Bray, Gate City, Va.; several
nieces and nephews.

Funeral Home.

Chapel with Elder Allen Hensley andElder Gerald Hopkins officiating.

cemetery for graveside services.

most of her life. Mrs. Gibson was a member of the Apostolic Church of
the Lord Jesus Christ.
She waspreceded in death by her first husband, James Dillard; second
husband, Hady Gibson; a son, Kenneth Dillard; her parents, Claude and
Leola Spears; two sisters, Ann Spears and Claudia Fincher; three
grandchildren, Mike Forbes, ReginaForbes, Joshua Sanlin; a special
nephew, Jimmy Forbes; and a daughter-in-law, Gilbretta Dillard.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Dennis Harris,
Johnson City, Phyllis Forbes, Chattanooga; three sons and
daughters-in-law, Robert and Ellen Dillard, Kingsport, Charles
Dillard, Kingsport, Ronald and Sandra Dillard, Church Hill; 12
grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and six
great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruby Lemaire, Indianapolis,
Ind., Jean Spears, Erlanger, Ky., Marie Cole, Mount Carmel; and two

with the Lord at 6 p.m. Monday (May 21,2001) at her residence after
an extended illness.
She was a native of ScottCounty, Va., a homemaker and a wonderful
mother. She was a member of Walnut Chapel Church and attended Lewis
Lane Baptist Church in her later years.
Shemade her home with her daughter and son-in-law for the last 15
years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Newton; parents,
George Brooks andOra Davis Brooks; infant sister, Edith Brooks; and
brothers, Dempsey Brooks,Lester Brooks and Carlos Brooks.
