KINGSPORT - Sgt. Carl Bascom Brooks, U.S. Army,Ret., 69, of Allgood
Drive, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon (May 16,2004) at
Indian Path Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Brookswas born Feb. 19, 1935 in Scott County, Va., the son of the
late George andOra Davis Brooks. He proudly served his country for 22
years in the military,having retired in 1995. He also was a former
employee of the Kingsport Times-News with 28 years of service.
Mr. Brooks was of the Baptist faith.
The family would like to send a special THANKS to the Indian Path
Medical Center staff and doctors and also Ridgecrest Manor of
Duffield, Va.
He was preceded indeath by three brothers, Dempsey Brooks, Lester
Brooks and Carlos Brooks; twosisters, Virgie Newton and Edith Brooks.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years,Thelma Rhoton Brooks, of the home;
son, Dwayne Brooks and wife Debbie, Kingsport; daughters, Denise Welch
and husband Ricky, Kingsport, and Diana Hicks and husband Randall,
Cleveland, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; sisters, Marie Wolfe and
husband Ralph, Kingsport, and Estle Adams and husband Raymond,
Knoxville; brother, Charles A. Brooks and wife Marie, Kingsport;
sister-in-law, Edith Brooks, Kingsport; several cousins, nieces and
nephews.
Calling hours arefrom 5 to 7 p.m. today at Carter-Trent Funeral Home,
downtown Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel
with theRev. George Willis and the Rev. Tim Rhoton officiating.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at
Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church Cemetery with American Legion
Hammond Post No. 3 and Gate City Post No.265 with Chaplain Joe W.
Byrd officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are
asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m.
American LegionColor Guard will serve as pallbearers.

KINGSPORT - Ulyes Clifton Rhoton, 70, entered intorest Sunday (Aug.
12, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Rhoton was born Sept. 8, 1930 in Scott County, Va.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emogene Hinson Rhoton.
Mr. Rhoton was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S.
Army.
Survivors include his parents, Marvin K. and Virgie C.Rhoton,
Kingsport; one son, Michael Rhoton, Johnson City; three sisters and
brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Edward Qualls, Duffield, Va., Rebecca
Jones, Darlene and Don Castle, all of Kingsport; one brother and
sister-in-law, Bruceand Charlotte Rhoton, Duffield, Va.; stepsons,
Jessie Montgomery, Kingsport,and DeWayne Montgomery, Michigan; and
several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT - Carline D. Hinson, 68, went to be with the Lord at 8 p.m.
Tuesday(Feb. 10, 2004) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center
following an extended period of poor health.
Born in Russell County, Va., Carline lived in Kingsport for most of
her life and attended Central Assembly of God.
She gave a lot of love to anyone who entered her life and was a loving
mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Her husband, Burl Hinson; and father, Smith Gilbertpreceded her in
death.
Surviving are two daughters, Brenda Larkins and husband, Clyde, Linda
Harlan and husband, Arthur; one son, Butch Hinson and wife,Debbie,
all of Kingsport; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; mother,
Callie Y. Gilbert, Kingsport; six sisters, Velma Morningstar, Dover,
Del., Kazel Patton, Kingsport, Betty Smith, Lillington, N.C., Patsy
Horton, Church Hill, Ruby Short, Kingsport, and Judy Rogers, Johnson
City; special companion, Gary Helbert; and two very special friends,
Donna Ramsey and Betty Jo Tipton.

JONESBOROUGH - Phyllis Hinson Haga, 75, died early Friday morning
(Jan. 21, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Scott County, Va., she moved to Kingsport at the age of 14 and
lived in the Church Hill area. She spent some time in Michigan near
her daughterand moved to Washington County in 1987. Phyllis was a
homemaker and loving mother and her hobby was quilting.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Carland Adra Davis Hinson;
husband, Claude "C.L." Haga; two sisters, Sylvia Hinson and Imogene
Montgomery; and one brother, Burl Hinson.
Surviving are her daughter, Connie Lorene Giacalone and husband,
Michael, Allen Park, Mich.; twograndchildren, Janice Pusino and
Robert Giacalone; three great-grandchildren; six sisters, Lena Smith,
Church Hill, Helen Morelock, Rogersville, Minnie Davis, Carolyn
Crawford, Judy Jackson, and Kathy Hinson, all of Church Hill; one
brother, Doug Hinson, Church Hill. The family extends a special thank
you to a sister-in-law, Janie Hinson, and special nieces and nephews.
