KINGSPORT - Ober E. uuMacuu McAmis, 79, went to be with God on Friday
(Sept. 1, 2000) at the VA Home in Johnson City.
He was born in Greene County, and had lived most of his life in
Kingsport. Heretired from the AFG Greenland Plant.
Mr. McAmis was a decorated veteran of World War II, serving on the
aircraft carrier, Hancock, was wounded and received the Purple Heart.
He left us after a very long battle with Parkinsonus disease. He was a
member of Bays Mountain Baptist Church and served as deacon for
several years at Summerville Baptist Church.
Mr. McAmis was also a wonderful father, devoted husband and
grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lydia McAmis; his
brothers, Harry and Roy McAmis; his sisters, Virginia Cale and
Madelene Hubbard.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth McAmis, Kingsport; a daughter and
son-in-law, Raven Luann and Scott Shipley, Kingsport; a granddaughter,
Crystal Shipley, Kingsport; brothers, Ralph McAmis, Hopkinsville, Ky.,
Buford McAmis, Kingsport and Jerry McAmis, Virginia; sisters,Kathleen
Smith and Ruth Lynch, both of Virginia; and several nieces and
nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Oak Hill Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel
with the Rev. Gaither Townsend and the Rev. Avery Nichols officiating.
Military graveside rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oak
Hill Cemetery by Hammond Post No. 3 of the American Legion.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.

GATE CITY, Va. - Roy Lynch Sr., 85, went to be with the Lord Wednesday
(June18, 2003) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 2, 1917in Scott County, Va., to the late Burley F.
"Birt" and Amanda Myrtle Dills Lynch.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son,
George Edward Lynch; and one brother, George E. Lynch.
Mr. Lynch retired from Tennessee Eastman Company with 15 years of
service as a machinist. He was an avidfisherman, hunter and bee
keeper.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Ruth McAmis Lynch, Gate
City; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Garry Cole, Gate City; son
and daughter-in-law, Roy Lynch Jr. and wife Joan, Kingsport; sister,
Blanche Lynch, Duffield, Va.; grandsons, Kevin Lynch and James Cole;
several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday atGate City Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the Gene Falin Memorial
Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Eddie McAmis and the Rev.
Buford L. McAmis officiating.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holston View
Cemetery, Weber City, Va.
The family will meet at the cemetery for a private graveside service.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
