FORT BLACKMORE, Va. -Elmore Steadham Darnell, 83, Route 1, Box 104,
Fort Blackmore, Va., died at 4:05 p.m. Thursday(April 29, 1993)
at Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home in Duffield, Va. after alengthy
illness.
He was born in Scott County, Va. and was a farmer. Heattended
Bishop Memorial Freewill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in deathby his parents, Henry and Martha Babb
Darnell.
Surviving are his wife, LauraCarter Darnell, of the home; one son,
Ralph Steadman Darnell, Fort Blackmore, Va.; three daughters, Mary
Ruth Howington, Martha Louise Kerns and Margaret Marie Carter, all of
Fort Blackmore, Va.; nine grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Gate City Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 2p.m.Sunday in the Gene Falin Memorial
Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Wrightly SaIling and the
Rev. Willie Ashworth officiating. Grandsons and friends will serve
as pallbearers. burial in Hill cemetery, Hill Station community.

(March 15, 2004) at Brookhaven Nursing Home.
A lifelong resident of Scott County, Va., she was a member of Freewill
Baptist Church ofClinchport, Va.
She was born April 14, 1927 to the late Marion and Mandie BabbCarter.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter
and an infant son; and brother, Will Carter.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Earnest H. Rhoton,
Clinchport, Va.; sister, Laura Darnell, Ft.Blackmore, Va.; brother,
Roy Carter, Ft. Blackmore, Va.; several nieces andnephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Gate City Funeral
Home.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Gene Falin
Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Eckel Herron and the
Rev. Gene Stallard.
Music will be provided by The Lee Smith Singers.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hill Station
Cemetery, Hill Station community.The family will meet at 10 a.m. at
the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.

(Feb. 12, 2003) at Indian Path Hospital.
He was born on April18, 1938 in Scott County, Va., to the late Marion
Thomas and Mandy Bessie Babb Carter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
granddaughter, Kattie Jo Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Joella Mae Carter, Ft.Blackmore, Va.; two
daughters and son-in-law, Linda Carter, Ft. Blackmore, Va., and Ms.
Larry "Edna'' Winters, Gate City, Va.; four sons and daughters-in-law,
William and Margaret Carter, Jimmy and Kim Carter, Ricky Carter and
Michael and Kathy Carter, all of Ft. Blackmore, Va.; two sisters and
brother-in-law, Laura Darnell, Ft. Blackmore Va., Hazel and Earnest
Rhoton, Clinchport, Va.; one brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Hazel
Carter, Ft. Blackmore, Va.; eight grandchildren; three step
grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; andseveral nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the Gene Falin Memorial
Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Charles Boone, Rev. Denny Hass
and Rev. Roger Herron.

Cemetery, Hillstation community.

He was born in Sullivan County, Tenn., on Oct. 8, 1962.
He was precededin death by his father, Will Marion Carter.
Survivors include his wife, KathyCarter, Ft. Blackmore; son, Adam
Michael Carter, Ft. Blackmore; step-sons, Timothy Light and Anthony
Light, both of Gate City, Va.; mother, Joella Mae Carter, Ft.
Blackmore; sisters, Edna Winters, Gate City, Va., Linda Carter, Ft.
Blackmore; brothers, William and Ricky Carter, both of Ft. Blackmore,
andJimmy Carter, Gate City, Va.; step granddaughter, Haley Morgan
Light, Gate City, Va.; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to8 p.m. today at Gate City
Funeral Home.
Services will be at 8 p.m. today with Pastor Denny Hass officiating.
