She was assumed to be the same Dora Lane that lived as a boarder with
Nancy Likens in 1900 Scott Co census (Dekalb #215). Reported 3
children, but only Mary was living with her.
Shown in 2 places in 1910 census. Lived as Dora Lane with Will &
Catherine (Lane) Dean 1910 (Dekalb #333, age 38,sis-in-law, single,
with no children present) and as Dora Peters (4 ch, 3 liv) with Wm. R.
Lane (Dekalb #193, age 32, dau, wd, incl Eliza Peters, 12, g-dau, and
Margaret Peters, 16, dau). Lived with Wm. R. in 1920 (Dekalb #148)
(Dora as divorced).

GATE CITY, Va. - Charlie Benton Dean, 93, of Gate City, Midway
community, went to be with the Lord Monday morning (Jan. 3, 2005)at
Indian Path Medical Center after an illness.
A native of Scott County, Va., he was born a son of the late William
Patton and Catherine Lane Dean. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and
was of the Baptist faith.
He spent most all of his life farming, something he loved dearly. He
was often called upon torelay history and genealogy information to
the younger generation. He was very knowledgeable about Scott County -
it's history and families, especially in the Midway community.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, William, Henry, Olaf and
Horton Dean; sisters, Ona Dean, Monnie Gillenwater, Clydie Benton and
Hazel Tate.
Survivors include two sisters, Stella Gillenwater of Ft. Blackmore,
Va., and Velma Henry of Gate City; several nieces and nephews
including Jimmy and Judy Crawford of Kingsport, and Jim Tate of Gate
City, who were his special caregivers; and many friends also survive.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Scott County Funeral Home,
Weber City, Va.
Serviceswill be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel
with Pastor Charles Boone and Pastor Eddie McAmis officiating.
Interment will take place at 1p.m. Wednesday at the Mount Pleasant
Cemetery (Midway community) with American Legion Post 3/Gate City Post
265 in charge of graveside services. It is requested that family and
friends meet at the funeral home by 12 noon Wednesdayto go in
procession to the cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the family of
Charlie Benton Dean.
