Carl C. Hurd

KINGSPORT _ Carl C. Hurd, 76, died Saturday afternoon (May 6, 2000) at
Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was a life long resident of Sullivan County and heserved in the
U.S. Marines from 1941-1944. He was a lifetime member of the Charles
DeWitt Byrd Post No. 3382 of the VFW.
Mr. Hurd was the owner and operator of Hurd's Sign Company in
Kingsport for over 25 years. He was a member of the First Assembly
Church of God in Kingsport.
He was preceded in death byhis parents, Luchian Hurd and Flora
Johnson Hurd; one brother, C.D. Hurd.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Glenna (Elliott) Hurd, of the home; three
daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Behrmann, Deborah Arnold and husband,
David , bothof Kingsport, Carol Ann Brown and husband, Chris,
Greeneville, Tenn.; one sonand daughter-in-law, Jason E. Hurd and
wife, Rachel, Kingsport; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two
sisters, Ms. Jo Johnson, Ms. Margaret Griffith, both of Johnson City;
one brother, Don Hurd, Johnson City; two special friends,
brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William (Bill Pat) and Shirley
Tipton, both of Gate City, Va.; several nieces and nephews; special
caregiver, Sarah Henry, of Wellmont Home Health, for all of her love
and affection duringhis illness.
Calling hours are today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carter-Trent FuneralHome
Chapel, downtown Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with
Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Mountain Home National
Cemetery, with the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post No. 3382 of the VFW in
charge of the graveside services.
Pallbearers will be the VFW Color Guard.


Barbara Dillon

She lived most of her life in Kingsport, TN, and graduated from Lynn
View HSin 1967. She was a beautician. She died after a long illness.
Preceded in death by father, g-parents (John & Hazel Vinson). Surv by
husband, Mother, 2 sons & dil, 7 g-ch, 1 bro & sil (Randy & Kim
Dillon, Knoxville), special aunt (Gaynell Begley), 2 special uncles
(Ed Bloomer & Jiggs Osborne). (from her obituary)

Lived at Gate City in 1994, 98.

GATE CITY _ Billy Ray (Bill) Elliott, 56, departed this life on Friday
(June 9, 2000) at Holston Valley Medical Center after a lingering
illness.
Billwas born on Jan. 24, 1944 in Fort Blackmore, Va. He lived the
last 19 years in Gate City. He was formerly employed by AFG
Industries, retiring in 1981 forhealth reasons.
He attended Midway Baptist Church.
He was preceded in deathby an infant brother, John; and his mother,
Rachel.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Regina Elliott, of the home; son,
Scottie Elliott, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and
Becky Elliott, Rye Cove, Va.; father, John H. Elliott, Kingsport;
brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred and Esta Elliott,Gary and Janice
Elliott, Johnny Elliott, all of Kingsport; sisters and
brothers-in-law, Nan and Ricky Quillen, Kingsport, Shirley and Bill
Pat Tipton, Gate City, Glenna Hurd, Kingsport; special sister and
brother-in-law, Peggy and Larry Edens, Church Hill; four
grandchildren, Talia, Shadie, Dylan and Dawson; several nieces and
nephews; special friends, Harold and Judy Lane, Gate City.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Gate City Funeral
Home.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel
of the funeral home with the Rev. Riley Boy and the Rev. Denny Hass
officiating.
Music will be provided by the Edens Trio.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Lawson
Family Cemetery, Fort Blackmore, Va.
Family will be meeting at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in
procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
