Gate City Branch. Mail carrier early. Workedfor Federal Crop
Insurance & with ASCA Office. One of founders of Scott Co Tomato
Cooperative. With SW Va Farm Credit Service 1970-79 (retired as chief
executive officer). Began position with People's Bank in 1989.
Survivors include wife, two sons, dau, step-dau, 3 step-sons, 2 g-dau,
8 step g-children,2 sisters, 3 brothers. Preceded in death by a
granddau Amy Jennings.

RUSSELL COUNTRY, Va. - Robert Paul Hammond Sr., 59, a resident of
Dickensonville Rest Home, passed away Thursday (Oct. 14, 2004) at
Russell County Medical Center.
He was born in Scott County, Va., Jan. 10, 1945,to the late Wrightly
Hammond and Margaret Peters Hammond.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Wilma
Monroe.
Survivors includehis daughter, Jenny Delano, West Carters Valley,
Tenn.; son, Robert HammondJr., Gate City, Va.; grandchildren,
Abbigale Hammond and Matthew Delano; ex-wife, Bonnie Lou Hammond,
Kingsport; sisters, Elizabeth Strong, East Carters Valley, Tenn.,
Louella Mays, Weber City, Va., Hazel Mathisen, Surgoinsville, Mamie
Hammond, Kingsport, and Beatric Lane, Duffield, Va.; brothers, James
Hammond, Weber City, Va., Herbert Hammond, Duffield, Va.; several
nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Gate
City Funeral Home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel
with the Rev. Otto Gibson officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City,
Va.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.

KINGSPORT - Elmer Carter, 85, passed away Tuesday (Feb. 11, 2003) at
Hillside Manor in Kingsport.
Mr. Carter was born in Scott County, Va., and had resided in
Kingsport. He was a U.S.Navy veteran having served in World War II,
and was a member of DAV.
Mr. Carter was of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Freeda Carter (March 19, 2002);
parents, Dudley Johnson and Dollie Mae McClellan Carter; brother,
Ralph Carter.
Surviving are his daughters, Nancy Darnell and husband Bill, Ft.
Blackmore, Va., Pat Carter, Kingsport, Katie New and husbandA.J.,
Germantown, Md.; son, Michael W. Carter, Kingsport; grandchildren,
Charles Darnell, Thad Carter, William New, Angella New, Christy Frew
and husband Jim; great-grandchild, Brodie Frew; brother, Charles
Edward Carter, Kingsport; sister-in-law, Unav Carter, Kingsport; two
nieces.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Colonial Funeral Home,
Weber City, Va.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home
chapel with the Rev. Don Large officiating.
Music will be provided by Larry Bishop and New Grace.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Holston View Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Memorials may be made to Nickelsville Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 237,
Nickelsville, Va., or the charity of your choice.


Freeda Eloise Minton

married.
KINGSPORT - Freeda Eloise Carter, 77, passed away Tuesday (March 19,
2002) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Scott County, Va., on September 10, 1924, she was the daughter
of the late Charles W. Minton and Velma E. Henry Minton. She retired
from Holston Valley Hospital as adietician clerk.
Mrs. Carter was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Elmer Carter, Kingsport; daughters and
sons-in-law, Nancy and Bill Darnell, Ft. Blackmore, Va., Katie and
A.J. New, Germantown, Md.,Pat Carter, Kingsport; son, Michael W.
Carter, Kingsport; grandchildren, Angella New, Christy Frew and
husband Jim, Charles Darnell, Thad Carter, WilliamNew; unborn
great-grandson, Brodie Frew; sisters, Wanda Lane, Weber City, Va.,
Jerrie Frazier and Jackie Fuller, both of Nickelsville, Va.; brother,
Roy Lee Minton, Greeneville; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Colonial Funeral Home,
Weber City, Va., and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeralhome
chapel with the Rev. Larry Spivey and the Rev. Leroy Pearson
officiating.
Music will be provided by Leroy Pearson.
Graveside services will be at 10a.m. Friday at Holston View Cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Taskalee Lane and John Fuller.
The familywill meet at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in
procession to the cemetery.
