KINGSPORT - Delmar Ray Smith, 72 of Highridge Drive, died Wednesday
(Feb. 18,2004) at Holston Valley Medical Center after an extended
illness.
He was born in Hawkins County (Church Hill) and had lived in Kingsport
since 1952.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a
member of Young & the Breathless, Kingsport Tomorrow, Volunteer at
Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, Respicare Advisory Board and
Nicotine Free-ME.
Mr. Smith retired from Rental Uniform Company Inc. with over 41 years
of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Thomas Smith and Lula
Jane Carey Smith; and one brother, Kyle Smith.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Bobbie Ruth Strong Smith, of the
home; sons, Randall Smith and wife Betty, Blountville, Dwight Smith
and wife Annelies, Kingsport and David Smith and wife Lisa,
Blountville; grandchildren, Shea Shuler, Dwight Smith II, Jessica
Smith, Zachary Smith, Nathan Smith and Elke Pierson;
great-grandchildren, SherreeAnn Shuler, Sarah Jane Shuler, Darby
Smith and Kaleb Smith; special cousins,Marie Smith, Nancy Lee Dykes.
Realizing how many problems odors may cause people in attendance with
respiratory disease, Delmar requested people in attendance wear no
perfume, cologne or after shave. THANKS!
Graveside services willbe conducted at 11 a.m. today at East Lawn
Memorial Park. Friends wishing toattend the graveside service are
asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:55 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Bill Johnson, Alan Bass, Zachary Smith, Mike Lowe,
Dwight Smith II, Nathan Smith, Audley Short and Freddie Short.
Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Ketron, Joe Watkins, Junior
Oliver, Hershel Crowder, Sam Powell and Jim Overbay.

PILOT, Va. - Joyce Irene Gill, age 58, passed away Wednesday (July 30,
2003)at her home.
Born April 23, 1945 in Clinchport, Va., the daughter of the late
Melvin Starnes and Mary Susie Horton. She was also preceded in death
by brothers, Jack Williams, Charley Williams, Sherman Williams, and
sisters, JulieBledsoe and Thelma Jean Cape.
Survivors include her husband, John B. "Bert" Gill, Sr. of Pilot;
three sons, John Gill, Jr. and wife, Amy of Yardley, Pa., Jason Gill
and special friend, Jen of Christiansburg, Va., Brett Gill and
fiancee, Cheryl of Pilot, Va.; four grandchildren, Lauren Gill, Evan
Gill, Brian Gill, and Lakin Covey; three brothers, Kyle Williams,
Willard Williams, andClell Williams.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today evening at
Horne Funeral Home Chapel, Christiansburg, Va.
Services will be held at2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with
Pastor Lester Bledson and Pastor Barry Fleming officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sunset Cemetery.
