Colonel Dawes Johnson

BLACKWATER, Va. - Colonel Dawes Johnson was born on Feb. 3, 1929 and
went home to be with Jesus Sunday (Nov. 2, 2003) at Ridgecrest Manor
in Duffield, Va., at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 30 days.
He was a lifelong resident ofBlackwater and was a retired employee of
the Robinette Store and Funeral Homewhere he was treated more like
family than an employee for many years. He served in the U.S. Air
Force for four years.
He was saved and joined the Willis Chapel Church, then later moved his
membership to Flower Gap Baptist Churchwhere he remained a member for
almost 40 years. He was a charter member of the Blackwater Men's
Christian Fellowship.
He would be the first to admit that he had made a lot of mistakes in
his life and would encourage anyone not tofollow the same paths of
heartaches, but during his illness, he spoke of "about being ready to
go to Heaven." Thank God His grace is sufficient to lead his lost
lambs home when we go astray.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Alwildia Hill
Johnson; a son, Randy Johnson; four brothers, Melvin, Curtis, Coy and
M.G. Johnson.
Survivors include three sisters, Laura Sullivan, Maxine Belcher and
Yvonne Johnson; one brother, A.J. Johnson; a hostof nieces, nephews
and friends.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. todayat the Robinette Funeral
Home, Blackwater, Va.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home with
Elder Walter Willis and Elder GordonJustice officiating.
Music will be provided by the Flower Gap Singers.
Committal graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the
Oak Hill Cemetery, Kingsport.
Pallbearers will be Morris Roberts, David Osborne, Everett Donald
Neeley, Coy McPherson, Larry Fannon and Roy Thomas.
God chose "a beautiful Sunday morning to call you home, "Bud," to sing
in the "Great Beyond," andsomeday we'll all sing together. So, for
one last time, We love you, "Bud."You are Home.

Richard Gary Carter

Lived at Kingsport in 1995.
KINGSPORT - Richard "Gary" Carter, 58, passed awayThursday (May 1,
2003) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center ER after abrief
illness.
Mr. Carter was raised in Hiltons, Va. before moving to Kingsport in
1968. He graduated from Gate City High School, where he set numerous
records and was an all-star pitcher. He was also a veteran of the
Vietnam War serving under the U.S. Army.
Mr. Carter was a first pressman at Quebecor Printing, retiring after
38 years of service.
Mr. Carter was a loving father, brother and friend to everyone he met.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence W. Carter and mother,
Mary F. Carter.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Shelley Carter Hunley and Blake
Hunley of Kingsport; brother, Donald F. Carter of Blountville; sister
and brother-in-law, Celesta Miller and John Miller of Kingsport; two
very precious and loving friends, Greg and Mandy Sampson; several
aunts, uncles, nieces and nephew.
Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home in
Weber City, Va., and anytime at the residence of his daughter, 260 Kim
Drive, Kingsport, Tenn. (Colonial Heights).
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. todayin the funeral home chapel
with the Rev. Larry Spivey officiating.
Militarygraveside services will be conducted by American Legion Post
No. 3 and No. 265 at 2 p.m. Sunday at Holston View Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
