KINGSPORT - Dorothy Lee Alvis,72, of Kingsport, went to be with the
Lord on Saturday (April 3, 2004) at her home following a lengthy
illness.
Born in Kingsport, she had resided thereall of her life. She was a
graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and was avolunteer at Holston
Valley Medical Center. Mrs. Alvis had worked several years for Dr. B.
L. Fienberg. She was also a member of Vermont United MethodistChurch.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Newton "Sonny" Alvis; her
parents, Worley and Addie Lane; two brothers, infant brother Earl Lane
and Harold Lane.
Surviving are three daughters, Donna Alvis of Kingsport, Kimberly
Alvis of Kingsport, and Tammy Alvis of Sarasota, Florida. Calling
hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes,
downtown Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home
chapel withPastor Stephen Burkhart officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at11 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill
Memorial Park.
KINGSPORT - Newton (Sonny) Alvis, 74, 557 Bays View Road, died
Thursday (Sept. 4, 2003) at his home after an extended illness.
Mr. Alvis was a resident ofKingsport for most of his life. He retired
from AFG Industries after 32 yearsof service.
Mr. Alvis was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea.
His father, Newton E. Alvis (1966), preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife,Dorothy Alvis, Kingsport; daughters, Donna
Alvis and Kimberly Alvis, both ofKingsport and Tammy Alvis, Sarasota,
Fla.; mother, Eula Alvis, Weber City, Va.; sister, Eloise Alvis, Gate
City, Va.; and a brother, Jackie Alvis, MidwayCity, Okla.
