afternoon at the Ramsey Church of God. Interment was in Laurel Grove

Carrie Stewart; five daughters, Mrs. Lottie Danner, Mrs. Sara

Charles Pickney wasborn on Friday, 4 June 1897, probably in Wise
County, Virginia. He died of aheart attack on Sunday, August 8th,
1954 at the age of 57. Charlie and CarrieDora Denham, who was born in
Kyles Ford, Tennessee on Sunday, April 28th, 1901, eloped to get
married in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee on Sunday, October 14th, 1917, a
year before the end of WWI. Charlie was the seventh child of William
Floyd Stewart and Mary Jane Meade (Flanary?). Charlie worked as an
electrician for the Blackwood Fuel Company in Pardee, VA. After
renting houses inGlamorgen, Pennington Gap, and from the Norton Coal
Company, Charlie and Carrie bought a house at 615 Roberts Avenue on
the 23rd of October, 1929 for $600.00. Here, in addition to William
Edward, Lottie, and Eugene Donald, they raised Sarah Ruth, James Elmo,
Doris Ann, Charlotte Faye, and Geneva Irene.

1 HIST I don't seem to to get a answer of my last letter so will
writeagain. You should know Arlie went overseas few days ago rec'd a
wire from him he was well and arrived safe first word had heard from
him since middle ofSept. am so glad he got over O.K. that was one
relief. Have no idea where hewas sent to I may when I start getting
his letters.

are working have the same hours, if I warn't working would go mad
this way. Am kept so busy and time goes by so much faster. I sure do
miss him this is the first time we been apart solong. Pray that he
will come back safe and soon How I wish this war soon be over. Am

to seehim when he was so close when we was in S. Carolina. I feel
sorry for him ifit wasn't for Dot & I he would be all alone, and he

(Nov. 28, 2002) at Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital in BigStone Gap,
Va.
Mr. Lane was born in Scott County, Va. on Oct. 31, 1941 andwas the
son of the late Johnny Loyde and Sarah Baldwin Lane.
In addition tohis parents, he was preceded in death by two nieces;
two nephews; and two brothers-in-law.
Surviving are his sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye and Charles
"Buck'' Darnell and Birtie McCracken, all of Gate City, Va., Clara and
Byard McConnell, Blountville, Annie and Kyle Gibson, Nickelsville,
Va., Millie Lane, Gate City, Va. and Gladys Darnell, Ft. Blackmore,
Va.; one brother, Emmitt Lane, Ft. Blackmore, Va.; and several nieces
and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home and
other times at the residence of his sister, Faye Darnell.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. todayin the Gene Falin Memorial
Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Terry Rhoton and the Rev.
Denny Hass officiating.
Working Toward the Promise will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday at theHill
Station Cemetery. The family will be meeting at the funeral home at 10
a.m to go in procession to the graveside service.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The group photo was taken at the old Lick Creek Church in Scott Co.
Va.My G-Grandfather Rev. James Emmett Thompson owned the land that
the church sits on One story has it that he had the church built and
then gave the land tothe church. The other story has it that he gave
the land to the church. Theonly thing I know to be fact is that he
