injuries when a truck he was in overturned. He was a member of Masonic
Lodge and was aMethodist. Until recently, he was located at Bonnie

BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Harry Howes Benton, 74, diedMonday (Sept. 25,
2000) at the Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City,Tenn.
He was born in Bulan, Kentucky, the son of the late Henry C. and Anna
Belle Dean Benton.
He was retired from Clinchfield Coal Company and a veteranof the U.S.
Navy, serving in World War II. Mr. Benton was also a licensed funeral
director and embalmer.
Surviving are his wife, Greta Benton; one sister, Edith Benton,
Bristol; eight children; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at home, 1020 Railroad Avenue East, in
Big Stone Gap, this evening.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Laurel
Grove Cemetery, Norton, Va. with the Rev. Gwen Owens officiating. Ray
Richardson will deliver the eulogy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church
of the Good Shepherd, P.O. Box 1011, Norton, Va. 24273.
Castlewood Funeral Home, in Castlewood, Va., is incharge of
arrangements.

KINGSPORT - Cyrus "Yank" Vineyard, 87, went to be with the Lord
Thursday (Aug. 30, 2001) at his residence after a lengthy illness.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served overseas in New Guinea. Mr.
Vineyard was a member of the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post No. 3382 of the
VFW,the American Legion Hammond Post No. 3 and the Fraternal Order of
the EaglesKingsport Aerie No. 3141.
He retired from Holliston Mills after 35 years service.
He was of the Methodist faith.
His parents, John and Helen Vineyard; andone brother, J.L. Vineyard,
preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife,Sue Williams Vineyard, Kingsport; two sisters,
Edith Smallwood, Mount Carmel,and Ruby Hurd, Kingsport; and several
nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Holston View
Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Hammond
Post No. 3.
Friends and familywill serve as pallbearers.

her parents, John C. and Mary Ellen Winn Kendrick.
Surviving are onedaughter, Mrs. Evelyn Hawkins, Gate City; one son,
J.C. Benton, Kingsport; two grandchildren; seven great grandchildren;
several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Gate City Funeral Home
or anytimeat the residence of the daughter, 192 W. Highland St., Gate
City.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Gene Falin Memorial
Chapel of the funeral home with Jim Harless officiating.
Burial will be in Holston View.
