Wm Dixon, Coms To Deed James J Lewis }

This indenture made and entered into this 23 day of September 1867 by and between William Dixon as Commissioner of the Harlan Circuit Court of the one part and James J Lewis of the other part wheretofore that whereas in the suite pending in the Harlan Circuit Court in which Benjamin F Blankenship and Elizabeth Blankenship his wife are plantiff and John Morgan and Rebecca Morgan his wife. Jonathan Lewis, James J Lewis, Wilson Lewis, William Rolly, John Rolly, James Rolly, Hiram Rolly, Wilson Rolly, Joseph Rolly, Nancy Rolly, Martha Rolly, Elijah C Baker and Jane Baker his wife, Wright Kelly & Hannah Kelly his wife, Jonathan Creech and Leah his wife, Jemirah Jenkins, Jonathan Lewis Jr, Catharine Lewis, John Lewis, Elizabeth Lewis, Robert Lewis, Sarah Lewis, Hiram Lewis, William Cornett & Nancy Cornett his wife and Alfred Hall and Elizabeth Hall his wife are defendants and all Plaintiffs and defendants being heirs of John Lewis Dec'd , the party of the first part was by an Order and Judgment of said court in said action at the September Term 1866 Appointed the Commissioner of the court and authorized and directed to sell certain lands which desended to said heirs of John Lewis and whereas the report of said commissioner of said sales was made to the court at its April Term 1867 and at the September Term thereof was approved and confirmed by the Court and the said commissioner authorized and directed to made deeds of conveyances to the purchases respectively of said lands and whereas the said James J Lewis became the purchaser of one certin peice or parcel of said land more particularly hereafter describedat and for the sum of seven hundred and fifty dollars secured to be paid as required and directed by the Judgment of the said court now therefore the said William Dixon party of the first part for and in consideration of the permises aforesaid and virtue of the power and authority in him vested by the processing orders and judgment of the court as aforesaid hereby convey and confirm unto the said James J Lewis his heirs and assigns forever the following tract or parcel of land lying and being in Harlan Co and bound as follows; Begining-----To the begining.

Bailey Clerk of the Harlan Circuit Court do hereby certify that this deed from William Dixon Commissioner of said court to James J Lewis was this day produced in Open Court and acknowledged before me by said William Dixon commissioner to be his act and deed whereupon the same was examined and approved by the court and the examination and approval of the court named there on all of which is certified to the clerk of Harlan Co Court for record where the land lies by order of the Judge of the Harlan Circuit Court. Given under my hand this 27th day of September 1867.

Note; from the deeds above. (This is the 5 children of Basil and Rebecca Maggard Lewis, daughter Elizabeth did marry Alfred Hall) At the date of the deeds 1867, Basil is deceased and therefore his children would be named as heirs in his place.
