VIRGIL A. LIBERTO
Virgil Anthony Liberto, artist and writer, died in Newark, N..J.. Monday of a heart attack. Funeral service will be held Friday at the Angelus Funeral home followed by a requiem mass at St Mary's Church
with brother, the Very Rev. Vincent Liberto, O.M.I. as celebrant. A rosary service will be recited at the funeral home at S p.m. Thursday. Liberto served in the Navy in World War II, and is author of the book, "JuJu," an authentic West African adventure story. Liberto, at 17, went to Africa in 1929 and wrote the volume in 1934 from notes in his diary. He was known for expert work in draftmanship, and did intricate work of this type for the government during the war. He was also a well-known artist, at one time a protégé of the famous artist, Hugo D. Pohl. Liberto was born in Beaumont July 11, 1911, and the same year his parents moved to San Antonio. He has resided in the East for six years.
