Elizabeth Sturgill b 1826 Powell Valley, Lee Co, VA; d/o David Sturgill and Rachel Boggs. Elizabeth Sturgill m. Gilbert Creech b about 1824 Letcher Co KY d 14 Apr 1864 Leatherwood Creek, Perry Co KY, s/o John Creech and Sarah Smith Armstrong. Gilbert Creech was a Corporal in Company C during the Civil War on the Union side. He was Court Marshaled and shot as a spy by the Confederate Army. Elizabeth Sturgill drew a Civil War Pension. Gilbert was shot on the lot where M. G. Cornette's home stands on Leatherwood, Knott Co KY, and was buried in the P. H. Hall cemetery. He was killed by Confederates for bushwhacking their men.
