6146. Alta Caudill
Her obituary in the Morehead News of Feb. 16, 1977, read "Mrs. Alta Caudill Porter, 69, Rt. 3 Morehead, died Feb. 7 at the St. Claire Medical Center, Morehead, after an extended illness. Mrs. Porter, an Elliott County native, was the daughter of the late B. J. and Rosetta Mabry Caudill. Mrs. Porter was affiliated with the Primitive Baptist church. In addition to her husband, Edd Porter, she is survived by one daughter, Janis Porter, at home; one brother, Arvle Caudill, Morehead, and one sister, Mrs. Stella Conn, Clearfield.
Funeral services were held Feb. 9, 10 p.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, Morehead. Burial was in the Brown Cemetery, Elliott Co., with the Revs. Luther Bradley and William Littleton officiating. Pall bearers were Acie Birchfield, Gaylen Conn, Norwood Caudill, Arlie Porter, Clyde Porter, Earl Henson, James Smedley and Charlie Dehart."
Lillie is listed in her father's 1931 will (as living in Morehead), but she is not not listed as a surviving child in her mother's obituary, so she must have died between 1932 and 1959.

The Kentucky Death Index lists Arvel C. Caudill, age 68, died 29 Mar 1980 in Rowan Co., residence same, certificate Vol. 31, #15359.
His gravestone, as surveyed by the Rowan Co Historical Society, says Arvel Chester Caudill, with the dates 21 Sep 1911 to 29 May 1980. (Note the March/May discrepancy in the death date, which may just be a matter of the transcriber misreading the survey team's notes.) But the birthdate of 21 Sep 1911 is very different from the date of 23 Apr 1912 that was given on June Settle's family group for Frank Caudill & Lillie Mae Cornett. I should look for other records to resolve the conflict.

Phil McBrayer's notes say that Amanda Jones d/o Marion Jones married "Dr. Silas Caudill". But Carrie (Caudill) Kendall, the daughter of Silas and Amanda, says that her mother's parents were James Wm. Jones and Sarah Ann Clark. She should know since they are her own grandparents. Perhaps Marion Jones (who married Minnie Crawford) also had a daughter named Amanda, but more likely whoever Phil was interviewing was less closely related and just had the wrong parents for Amanda.
Her gravestone says that she was born 22 May 1878, but she was not listed with her parents on the 1880 census, and she was listed as 28 in 1910. The birthdate of 22 May 1881 is from her granddaughter, Carrie E. (Caudill) Kendall.
