Eva Mae Beard

Eva Mae Maggard, daughter of Alton Clifton and Linnie (Parrish) Beard was born August 1, 1922 in El Reno, Oklahoma and departed this life to be with our Lord August 15, 2009 at the age 87 years and 14 days.
Eva married the love of her life: Edgar Maggard on June 24, 1938 and to this union 5 children were born: Phyllis, Letha, Sharon, Winford and Linnie. They were married for 61 years before Edgar's passing. She was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She also worked as a cook at the Westville Dairy Bar for several years before going to work at Baldor Electric where she was employed for 7 years. Eva attended the Mt. View Freewill Baptist Church for many years. She was a really great cook and seamstress but most of all a fantastic mother for her children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Alton and Linnie Beard, Her husband; Edgar Maggard, 3 brothers; Clifton, Leo and Henry Beard, 1 sister; Imogene Cross White and 1 grandson; Scott Goldman.

Eva is survived by a very loving family that includes 1 son; Winford Maggard and wife Janice of Westville, Ok, 4 daughters; Phyllis Page of Tulsa, Ok, Letha Graham and husband Keith of Dallas, Ga, Sharon McMurtrey and husband Garlan of Westville, Ok, Linnie Campbell and husband Winifred of Tahlequah, Ok. 12 Grandchildren, 22 Great Grandchildren, 3 great -great grandchildren, 4 sisters; Faye Tuttle and Gladys Johnson of Westville, Ok, Artie Long and husband Bill of Westfork, Ar, and Dora Lagaly and husband Willie of Arlington, Tx, 1 brother; Jim Beard and wife Georgia of Yukon, Ok, 2 sisters-in-law; Wanda Maggard and Flossie Maggard, 1 brother-in-law; Kenneth Maggard, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive her.

Funeral services were held, Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in the Roberts Funeral Chapel with Bro. Larry Kindle officiating. Interment followed in the Westville City Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.

Melvin Clarence Maggard Sr., 90, of Witter died Thursday, July 26, 2007.

He was born June 9, 1917, in Boston to Andy and Olie Pruitt Maggard. He was a farmer and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Bessie Jane Martin Maggard and Ida Lillian Neff Ledbetter Maggard; and a son, Melvin C. Maggard Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan Johnson of Witter; two brothers, Everett Maggard of Springdale and Dale Maggard of Venus; four sisters, Ruby Myers of Bentonville, Velma Porter of Venus, Jessie Allred of Springdale and Jeanie Easley of Gravette; two grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.

Visitation will be 5-7 p. m. today at Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.

Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Revs. Loren Collins and Layton Porter officiating. Burial will be in Venus Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Martin, Chance Bryant, J. C. Eaton, Doug Thornberry, Larry Hawkins and Simon Keck.

Bessie Jane Maggard, 61, of Star Route, Witter, died December 14 in Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Born April 27, 1918, at Boston, she was the daughter of H. R. and Ida Mae Cowen Martin. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Melvin C. Maggard, Sr. of the home; one son, Melvin Maggard, Jr. of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Joan Johnson of Pettigrew; four brothers, Orvilie Martin and Milburn Martin of Pettigrew, Elmer Martin of Springdale and James Martin of Fayetteville; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Baughman of Witter and Mrs. Ruth Maggard of Huntsville; and two grandchildren.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, December 17, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home, Huntsville, with Otto Bennett officiating. Burial was in Venus Cemetery.

Melvin Clarence Maggard Jr., 52, of Witter died Thursday, May 25, 2006, at Meadowview Healthcare and Rehab in Huntsville.
He was born July 9, 1953, in Prairie Grove to Melvin Clarence and Bessie Jane Martin Maggard. He was an automotive mechanic.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, Melvin and Ida Maggard of Witter, and a sister, Joan Johnson of Witter.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Venus Cemetery with the Rev. Layton Porter officiating under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.
Pallbearers will be Brent Myers, Kent Myers, Dale Johnson, Joe Johnson, Larry Johnson, David Deaton, Mike Dennis, Allan Varner and Jeremy Johnson.

She was the daughter of William Thomas and Haley Hughes Neff. She retired from the Huntsville Garmet Factory as a floor supervisor and attended the Venus Community Church, she loved to sing and attended the monthly gospel singings around the community. She wrote the "Dripping Springs News" which was published in The Madison County Record for 62 years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Mart Ledbetter; one son Lavon Ledbetter; brothers Eugene Neff and Dean Neff;; sisters Bertha Williams, Nannie Williams, and Mary Pulis; and a stepson Junior Maggard. survivors include her husband Melivn Maggard of the home; a stepdaughter Joan Johnson and husband Jerry of Boston; three sisters, Ethel Williams of Boston, Josephine Boling of Fallsville,and Ada Stanphill of Alpena; and several grandchildren

Everett Jesse Maggard, 84, of Springdale, Arkansas, died January 8, 2008 at his home. He was born March 14, 1923 at Venus, Arkansas, the son of Andy and Ollie Pruitt Maggard. He was a farmer, a logger, an airplane mechanic and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years, Ora Bell McChristian Maggard on September 9, 2007. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Larry Maggard and Gary Maggard.
Survivors include: one brother, Dale Maggard of Witter, Arkansas; four sisters, Velma Porter of Witter, Arkansas, Ruby Myers of Rogers, Arkansas, Jean Easley of Gravette, Arkansas and Jessie Allred of Springdale, Arkansas; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A. M. Saturday, January 12, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville with Chance Bryant, Minister and the Reverend Porter Bryant officiating. Interment will be in the Venus Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home www.brashearsfuneralhome.net of Huntsville, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be: Mike Maggard, Mark Maggard, John Maggard, David Greer, Terry Ward and Steve Leichner. Orabelle Maggard, 82, of Springdale died Sept. 9, 2007, at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale. She was born Dec. 11, 1924, at Bohannan Mountain near Wesley, the daughter of Hobart and Allie Boyd McChr istian. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Maggard and Gary Maggard. Survivors include her husband, Everett Maggard of the home; one brother, Bob McChristian of Fayetteville; three sisters, Cleta Leichner of Fayetteville and Connie Faye Robbins and Ruby Gilbert, both of Hogeye; five grandsons, Mark Maggard, Mike Maggard and David Greer, all of Fayetteville, John Maggard of Bentonville and Chad Maggard of Springdale; one granddaughter, Lesa Pennie of Springdale; one great-grandson, Weston Maggard of Fayetteville; seven great-granddaughters, Nicele Maggard, Kendra Maggard, Ashley Maggard and Hanna Maggard, all of Fayetteville, Hailey Pennie, Courtney Pennie and Nicole Thomas, all of Springdale; and a greatgrandchild expected in January of Bentonville.

Norman Doyle "Jack" Maggard, 79, of Witter died Sunday, July 23, 2006, at Meadow View Healthcare and Rehab in Huntsville.

He was born Oct. 3, 1927, in Venus to Andy and Ollie Pruitt Maggard.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator, a Baptist and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Martin Maggard of the home; a son, Ronnie Maggard of Springdale; six daughters, Twilla Bryant and Patricia Maggard, both of Witter, Debbie Dennis of Aurora, Pam Lawson of Summerfield, Ohio, and Judy Phillips and Sandra Hudgens, both of Elm Springs; three brothers, Melvin Maggard and Dale Maggard, both of Witter, and Everett Maggard of Springdale; four sisters, Ruby Myers and Velma Porter, both of Witter, Jessie Allred of Springdale and Jeanie Easley of Gravette; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 2 p. m. Wednesday in Venus Cemetery with Chance Bryant and the Rev. Layton Porter officiating. Pallbearers will be Chance Bryant, Billy Dennis, Allan Varner, Brandon Harp, Justin Phillips and Lee Bryant. Arrangements are under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.

She was born in Venus to Andy and Ollie Pruitt Maggard.

She was a retired inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and a member of First Baptist Church in Springdale. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie William Smith, on July 28, 1994; one son, Jerry Smith; and one daughter, Patsy Akers-Chancellor.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, one daughter and son-in-law, 4 brothers, 4 sisters, 4 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 6 stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was 72 when she passed away at Northwest Medical Center.
